It has helped us out a couple of times in cities when we need a quick map or to search for a place. I'm not sure exactly how the new ones (wifi) work as I haven't paid much attention to them. And for those who think it's another way for them to get $$$ I want to say that I have bought only a very few books in the last 1.5 years! Only authors that I HAD to have the new book or authors that had offerred the 1st of a series as a freebie to entice buyers. Also most of the books I did buy were $6 or under. They have an awful lot of free books - you just have to check often as the selection changes. I love my Kindle!!! No more dusting a library worth of books, moving them place to place or selling them at yard sales ;-) |

I have had a Kindle for about a year and love it...yes, there are plenty of books related to quilting - just about anything is available...and when you have a Kindle account with Amazon, you can do a free download of Kindle for PC so you can read anything on your computer that you have loaded on your Kindle, so patterns etc are large enough to see or print. I load how to books, cook books, text books etc and have them easily accessible on the Kindle and the PC...

I have the Sony Reader, and I've downloaded tons of free PDF files of quilting books that I've found for free.
I think there's a program that will let you use regular PDF's on the Kindlle, too. I put a lot of patterns on it this way, too, that way if I'm out and about, I can quickly look and see how much and what kind of fabric I need. Just about every free pattern on the web is a PDF, so its worth it for Kindle owners to get a conversion software. The Sony will read all formats, though. So, you don't have to convert anything if you have it. The ipad is what I'm wanting now! That sucker is awesome! I have had a Kindle for two years and love it. I didn't think I would, as I really really like holding a book in my hands and turning pages. However, with my Kindle I can change the font size, order a book at midnight and get it in one minute, and much more that I don't even know about. (There is a keyboard that I don't know what to do with. :) ) I have about 80 books.
The BEST thing is that when I have already ordered a book, it tells me I already have the book....I tend to forget if I have read a book. Sad, but true. |

I read somewhere that there might be a coloured version coming soon, but I doubt if it would be in my price range somehow. I thought about the ipad, but it is too pricey for me at the moment, plus I think it has a lot of things that I can already do on my notebook, so I would be paying twice. I am attracted to the newest Kindle because of its size as much as anything, as I am thinking of taking it out and about whilst waiting for appts. at various doctors and hospitals. |

With a kindle you won't be able to see pictures in color and good luck going back and forth from page to page quickly. I don't think the kindle would be feasible for quilt books.
I do love mine for reading though, I have 47 books on it already and I can even access my books from my computer. |
Well, I know I'm sold now!!! It sounds like a great invention. Usually DH is the one wanting the "new" stuff...this time it's me!
