THAT is never a good sound when sewing. My Pfaff (the one I just had serviced a month ago) did the klunk yesterday and it seized up. I reset the machine and got a few more seams out of it. I petted and talked nicely to it, but when I cleaned the bobbin case, a small piece of metal fell out.

 Looks like a visit to the ER is necessary - hope they can do CPR.

ai731 06-09-2009 01:26 PM

OOOOOPS!

Hope it's fixable, and not a very expensive repair.

Lacelady 06-09-2009 01:27 PM

You have my sympathies, I hope it doesn't need anything dearer than a bandage to make it better.

Lisa T 06-09-2009 01:29 PM

YIKES!! That's a heart-sinking sound. Hope it goes well.

beachlady 06-09-2009 02:11 PM

Oh I am so sorry. I would hate it if my machine broke in mid-seam! Hope you get it fixed soon.

gcathie 06-09-2009 02:13 PM

:-(.....hope you have a spare

Shemjo 06-09-2009 02:49 PM

Oooooo, that is never a good sound! Hope is is easily repaired! :?

sewjoyce 06-09-2009 03:28 PM

Here's hoping your baby just has a small fever....

sandpat 06-09-2009 03:30 PM

Oh Noooo....certainly hope it has a very quick recovery time. I hate those long drawn out ER stays...they are costly

sharon b 06-09-2009 04:46 PM

Maybe just a few stitches... and she will be as good as new
Good Luck and keep us posted
Sharon

amma 06-09-2009 05:02 PM

Ouch!!! A minor joint replacement surgery and she'll be as good as new

Ducky 06-09-2009 05:05 PM

Martina, maybe it was a little cough......that just sounded like a klunk. I recently had a little metal rod come out of my 1/4" foot and fall into my bobin area. Did I panic and scream? Well, yes....but, the "doctor" at the LQS took off the plate and tweezered out that little puppy. Long story short, the E.R. visit wasn't as painful as it could have been. Hope yours ends up as well.

MadQuilter 06-09-2009 05:40 PM

I'm actually planning to put on the white coat, mask and rubber gloves tonite and see if I can give her a deklunking enema. lol.

littlehud 06-09-2009 05:54 PM

You are right....klunk is never a good sign. Any clue what the piece of metal is from. Hope it's and easy and cheap repair.

Maybe that small piece of metal is a baby sewing machine and it just needs to go into an incubator to grow into an adult!!!

k3n 06-10-2009 03:04 AM

LOL Mary - Martina I hope your machine is OK!

PrettyKitty 06-10-2009 03:38 AM

Don't feed it after midnight or get it wet!

Sorry, am laughing at myself so much!

I hope you can get it fixed soon. I'd be lost if my machine broke.

sandpat 06-10-2009 04:46 AM

So...has the Dr. been able to see the patient yet?

DR Mad  disassembled all there was to be disassembled. I gave it a THOROUGH cleaning and inspection. Noticed that the shuttle was missing part of its little hook (so that explains the metal piece). I'll get a new shuttle and see if that was the problem. Wouldn't it be nice if it were that easy? (Big sigh).

Shemjo 06-10-2009 03:23 PM

Positive energy that the shuttle will be all that it requires to go back to work! Be healthy!

Well, I went to the dealer and bought a new bobbin case ($50) and the technician told me that based on the described symptoms, the timing is off and I need to bring it in for service ($90 min).

So just for grins I asked the sales lady to show me "something like I have."

You see where this is going - don't ya?

I checked out the Pfaff 2058 which has everything my current machine has and then some. Its decorative stitches are much cleaner than my current.
AND AND AND you can set it up to where its foot lifts when you stop the sewing - I MEAN THE LITTLE FOOT JUST LIFTS UP!!! When you start sewing again, the foot goes back down.

She quoted me $1699 and after I left the store, she came running out to the parking lot and said they would give me $400 for my machine in trade-in. $1,299 for a machine that lifts its foot. aaaaarggghhh what to do, what to do?

Well, I would have phoned my hubby and told him I was spending "some" money and then went back in and bought that new machine.....

Hubby's work is on the way home ....and he was VERY supportive  and I am sitting here doing research on the machine. THAT is a must for all of my purchases.

tlrnhi 06-10-2009 07:29 PM

You ASKED hubby? WOW!
I usually just tell mine what I'm buying, within reason tho.
I don't ask for much, heck, can't remember the last time I bought new underwear......lol

Well ASKED as in FOR PERMISSION is not a true representation of how we work. lol But yes, we discuss large purchases AND he is my quilting advisor, so he is "up" on the latest in quilting/sewing. It is more like he talks me into going through with it.

Just to give a counter example, he asked my counsel when he wanted to buy a laptop just for his telescope. I had to convince him to go through with that.

Skeat 06-10-2009 08:02 PM

I had to reread the post on asking 'us' what to do....to buy a machine or not...?!! Let me guess...you asked only knowing what we would reply with:)LOL And, we are so efficient!LOL

I vote 'yes'!! Espec if you get to test drive:)Then you will know for sure all on your own:)Good luck! SKeat....who has a 'deal' w/dh that we both discuss anything over 200 before purchase. It's always a good thing...:0)Espec since I don't keep up on tire tred and etc around here...and, want no surprises like 'ah-oh'! LOL

Yeah, that "asking" was more rhetorical. lol

Skeat, you should have seen me on the test drive. I couldn't get over the fact that it lifted its little foot. I'm still laughing about my own response.

I bet there is nothing better then a sewing machine that reads your minds...:)Maybe it makes great java too!:)Don't be caught hugging that machine!LOL Skeat

gcathie 06-10-2009 10:38 PM

Okay now did you buy the little darling?.....:-)

k3n 06-10-2009 11:18 PM

Martina - you asked the right people! BUY BUY BUY!!!! I love the little foot lifting thing, sounds so CUUUTE the way you say it! 'It lifts its little foot' bless it! A machine that obliging, you've just gotta have it! :D

bearpaw 06-11-2009 05:16 AM

The lifting foot is a great feature. I love it. Hope you made the right decision!!

Esqmommy 06-11-2009 05:22 AM

I feel your pain! I went in to get some work done on my BEAUTIFAL Pfaff Quilt Expressions 2046 and discovered the Pfaff Expressions 4.0. OMG it practically makes the quilt for you! The features are amazing, including a little thread snipper, the auto lift, and a huge space, plus double lighting. I almost bought it, but the fact that I'm working full time and my husband is home laid off work struck me as a bit of a selfish move on my part. Especially when my kids want to go to Disneyland and I tell them there's no extra money...

mytwopals 06-11-2009 11:07 AM

I'm jealous. It's got more features than mine does. But my Viking is pretty close.

MadQuilter 06-11-2009 11:10 AM

One of the guys at work laughed. He said: So you went to pick up some new spark plugs and drove off with a new car. I suppose that is the man-speak equivalent.

LOL!! Good look with it - it looks like an awesome machine!!!

sewjoyce 06-11-2009 03:56 PM

Wow -- very nice machine!!

MadQuilter 06-11-2009 06:29 PM

So I did my homework (read reviews, checked the web, and called other local dealers). The gal in Vacaville told me that the 2058 was a closeout special and that she could get me one for @1,200. I called the local shop and said: What gives? They matched the Vacaville price and I went by to pick it up after work. TaDaaaaa!!! I'm jazzed. gotta read the book though.

sewjoyce 06-11-2009 06:33 PM

WooHoo girl! Way to go -- it really helps when we do our homework and can quote someone's price that is cheaper!! HeeHee
