Kona Fabric of the Year- Orange What About You?
Hi friends,
MSQC just featured the limited edition Kona Orange, the 2018 color of the year. There are 3 colors I don't like and orange is one of them. However, I may get some just because. Have no clue what I'll do with it but sometimes I like colors I swore I didn't once I see them in something. Have you seen it? Do you like it? I must admit it's cheerful ! |
Orange is my favorite color - this one is very appealing to me. Just about every quilt I make has some orange in it. Adds a certain spark (I almost never use muddy colors)
Orange hides my ruddy complexion.

Orange is a great color for kids quilts as a blender for a fun novelty.
I really like orange in a quilt, I use it as often as I can!
Orange is not one of my favorite colors, but I do try to have some in my stash, especially for using in kids' quilts.
I am not an orange person most of the time........until it gets to October.
I have not seen it, however I always think of Halloween when I see orange. |
I have only used orange in children quilts as well, oh actually that is not true I have made a couple of quilts using orange. I saw the orange that Kona is calling the color of the year and I had decided to get some, I think it's more red orange I think it would look great with one of my black background quilts with many vibrant colors.
Oh i went through an orange phase in quilts. love it!!! backgrounds of orange, red or yellow really set off other colors. not just black, which is another love of mine.
I am a fan of orange period. I have orange clothing, orange walls in my living room, an orange cat and an orange dog.
Bonnie Hunter uses Cheddar in some of her quilts and it is growing on me.
I love orange quilts, especially with blue. Images here:

I think they're calling it Tiger Lily and I love it! It's a rich orange and I think it would look great in a fall/autumn quilt.
I just looked at it, it is a deep, rich reddish orange. I like orange in it's many shades, a shade of orange looks great w/ nearly every color I can think of.
Love orange, even have an orange car! It is a Subaru
My car is bright reddish orange too.

Yes, it's a very rich reddish orange. I need to get some. |
Please give me a clue where I can look at the new colors of the year.
Suzanne, I get an email from Missouri Star daily and they have it. It really is a beautiful shade. I'm going to get some.
I googled it
Yes, that works also!
I do have some fabrics with orange in them. Hopefully I will get them into some of my donation quilts I give to kids in foster care.
Love love love bright colors....Orange is a staple in my stash that ranks right up there with white, neutral, black, and yellow. I could make each board member a quilt with just my staples...lol...
I'm not a fan of orange and only use small amounts if it adds a pop to the other colors.

Here's Tiger Lily, the Kona color of the year https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop...r-lily-roll-up

with the Kona Orange and the Pantone Ocean I'm thinking a pretty cool quilt could result if the two tangoed!
Don't go overboard on a color you don't like! I'm still using up orange I bought in the mid-'70's -- a little goes a long way!
I love this Tiger Lily color! Must order some today!
I am one of those who love orange. We once had a kitchen (in Santa Fe) that had orange countertops and I absolutely loved that space. I have had an orange colored car. And, orange appears in many of my quilts. In fact, I am making one for my son's 50th birthday and it has a blue/teal background. The interior borders will be orange.
I used to detest orange. Now I love it. Isn't it funny how our taste changes.

I use orange in kid quilts and even like the cheddar. But bold TN orange for me--no way. I'm a UGA Bulldogs fan--red and black. Go Dawgs!

I do not relate to orange, but there is a place for everything.
I was not a fan of orange until I saw the "Vibrant Log Cabin" posted by ekuw https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictur...n-t291375.html. It totally changed how I looked at orange.
I still haven't made anything with orange but I do intend on buying some of the Kona fabric as it looks so rich. And someday there will be an orange quilt on my design wall! |
Jan, i was thinking the one quilt in your link was orange peel and perfect quilt for orange. then went back to see how it was done. it is a circle quilt folded over. I've made those, so will think seriously of an orange one! thanks.
Not a big fan of orange but do use it. No a fan of lime either but it is starting to grow on me, especially if it is a bit toward yellow. Together they are great.
I have seen it and I love Orange but am not sure I like this enough to use it yet.
