So many of you have shown labels for your completed quilts. How do you suggest to make a label if you don't have a machine that does embrodiary? I tried a permnant fine point "Sharpie" but it seemed to bleed into the fabric when I just wrote with it.

You need to use a PIGMA PEN!!! They're made for writing on fabric.

Try either the Pigma or Zig. I prefer the Zig as it has a ballpoint and doesn't catch on the fabric like I find the Pigma does. There are also crayons and such to color with.

 You can also purchase the June Tailor fabric sheets at JoAnn's and print off your design on them.

I use a copic multiliner. A while back I saw a blog post where someone tried out the different types of pens and washed the fabric and the multiliner was one of the best. I bought mine from http://www.copicmarkers.com

I ironed the label to freezer paper and then wrote, and then removed the paper and sewed it on by hand.

I've only labeled one quilt though-I made it for my MIL and I'm pretty sure she'll never (or rarely) wash it or use it. You never know though. She has it on the back of her couch.

Pigma pen!!!
I can now use my EM unit on my machine and do an embroidered label but I used to take a left over block and add some ecru kona cotton and write on it with a Pigma pen.

Do a google search for pigma pens or

I usually embroider mine but if not I use pigma pens.

Have you all had good luck with your pigma pens staying dark after washing? On the blog post I linked above, she had the most lightening with the pigma pen. I just bought one before I read that but I haven't even opened it yet.

Current board member GailR does some amazing work with making labels. Her charges are reasonable. PM her for more information.
