Wow, they are really cool! I have one in the garage I will have to bring inside. My husband said he would help me restore the cabinet. I brought it back from France and it says Made in England. I used to use it for a sewing table, with the original machine folded down.

You should post a pic of your machine from France.

Wow - that's terrific! :)
You can buy a copy of your manual from Linda at Relics - they do a *great* job of scanning, and most of their manuals are spiral bound and plastic covered. http://pages.sewing-machine-manuals....1834488/1.html You are going to be amazed at what that Kenmore can do with free-motion quilting. :) Looking at the zoom picture at Relics, it looks like the 1400 is a super high shank or maybe only a high shank. Either way, you will probably be able to outfit this machine with a complete set of attachments and cams really cheap if you start watching eBay. Both of them will absolutely plow through anything. |
Both nice machines.

Thanks for the info.

Good for you

Even with the cobwebs they look great. Congrats on your lucky find.
|
how lucky can one person get!!!! good for you.
|
how lucky for you, and I am sure those machines will have a good home
|
I look at your Kenmore pic and then I look over at my current machine and they are the same!! If you find out how to use the fancy stitches or do anything besides a straight stitch on it, I would love to know. I think maybe something is "off" in mine.
I got mine for free too, I knew I had a Kenmore cabinet and it fit right in. |
Congratulations! Enjoy both of these beauitful machines.

Good luck. I have the second machine. I purchased it 42 years ago. I used it 24/7 in my bridal shop and now use it for quilting. I have never had it serviced until 4 months ago and it was because I burnt out the foot pedal motor. It was replaced for 10.00 plus the 19.95 for looking at it. I just love it. You cannot drop the feed but what I do is release the pressure to the foot the tube that is on the top of the machine above the foot. ENJOY.

I can't help but laugh. I got a free machine a few weeks ago at a summer cottage. My husband put it in the van. My grandson got his license and he asked to borrow the van as we were using the truck. I said sure but please put the sewing machine in the house and the big lobster pots for me. He said sure. Well 3 weeks went by and I asked if he put the sewing machine away for me. His reply was,"well I put the pots away but I could not find the sewing machine. Again I said it is way in the back. 2 days later I get a call from him. Hey Nini Jack found it. It was in the back of the van but it was in an end table, you never told me that. I said, Oh! I am sorry, I thought you knew what a sewing cabinet was. We all had a good laugh.

What a nice surprise for you!

Both nice machines but my favorite is the Singer. Looks like a twin sister to my Singer 15. Enjoy. Especially nice price.

Singer 66 Serial AM078465 from 1955 and Sears Kenmore Model 158.14002 from 1971-72. Serial 0018082. I thought I was going after one old machine. Had no idea I was getting machines with cabinets. Excuse the cobwebs-haven't cleaned them yet. I also added this in the vintage section.

Wow! Congrats! Neat machines!
|
Thanks for the tip and glad to hear that it's such a fine machine.
