Large Throat Sewing Machine

I currently have a Janome with a 6-inch throat. I can quilt up to a twin size on it. I'm looking for a sewing machine with a large throat, preferable 12", but I don't know if that is possible. I don't have the money for a small or mid-arm quilting machine. It doesn't matter if the machine is electronic. I don't need lots of fancy stitches or computerized embroidery. Does anyone know about machines that meet my criterion? Thanks!

A Janome 8900 would be my first thought. A few years back I quilted a queen size quilt on mine, and it was not as challenging as I thought it would be... lovely machine, I still use it.

My Janome 7700 has an 11" throat and I can easily do up to a queen size quilt.

I’ve heard jukis have good throat area and are inexpensive.

My Janome 8200 has an 11" throat. I've no doubt it could do a queen but the largest I've tried is a twin.

On my 9" throat machines, I can quilt a larger than normal double quilt

The first machine that I quilted a king size on was my brother was a 7 or 9 in. throat. Then I got a Janome 8200 with a 11". Have done many king quilts on it. With all of the quilts, I mark into 4 sections. Mark the center of the quilt, using larger safety pins, the center of each side, also with pins. Start quilting in the middle and quilting the bottom right section then turn the quilt a quarter turn and starting in the middle again quilting the bottom right section. Before you know it you have the quilt finished.

Babylock has some great machines with huge throats now.

Juki is introducing a 12” throat this summer. I “think” the MSRP is $4999.00. My dealer will let me know when she recieves her shipment. She also deals in Janome and Babylock so we can compare brands.

I purchased my Brother PS1500 over 10 years ago. It has an 11" throat and only does straight stitching. I love it! Perhaps you can purchase a used one? New, it was $900.00.
