Largest shop in my area is Fabric Shack in Waynesville, Ohio. Lots of fabric, narrow aisles...not my first place to shop. I still prefer my LQS, they have enough to get me in trouble.

I would agree Mary Jo's (it was a deptment store like a JC Penny's in a Mall) they beat out Hancocks in Paduck.. I've been to both and was disappointed in Hancocks(nice store but no Mary Jo's). another great thing about Mary Jo's is the parking space it's hugh so easy to get in and out with a RV...

Quilter's Cottage is one of my favorites. Well stocked, they turn their merchandise over quickly (good sales) and the staff always been helpful but without hovering. Also, I like It's a Stitch in Humble and have visited Painted Pony. We really do have great shops in and around Houston with one exception which has rude employees, pretend they are doing you a favor when they offer 10% off and has the highest prices among all of the Houston quilt shops. Needless to say, they don't get my business anymore.

IrishNY , Plan to be in up-state NY this summmer. Where is this place Fieldstone House located? ..if we are not having to go to far out of our way perhapes we can stop in and have a look see.

Door Mouse has bunches but it's crowded. But a great 'destination' shop.

Bonnie,
Where is this shop Quilter's Station located in MO, in May we will be in IN so may get chance to go then if I can locate it...Thanks JAS... |
Hancocks of Paducah has over 60,000 sq feet and 40 employees. When I was there a few years ago, I found that a back room has long tables of piles of 1 yard cuts of fabric. Probably 50 women were in there searching. The trick was when you found some of the fabric you liked, you put it over your shoulder, when someone else finds something you have over your shoulder, they holler to you and you go get it and then you have 2 yrds, this continues until you have all you want. The lines were out the door, so if you go, don't go anywhere near closing time. It's a day trip, not an hour or two...
|
I forgot to say that Hancocks of Paducah has a wonderful catalog, just call 1-800-845-8723 and request it

OMG!! My husband would never let me in that store. I would come out with bolts of fabrics. That is one big store.

Wow, this was fun.. so happy to know about these wonderful stores..
I'm very sad too.. I lived many years in San Diego.. never went to Rosie's because I wasn't quilting then. guess it doesn't matter, I probably saved us a ton of money.. boo-hoo, can't believed I missed my opportunity..... |
Hancock's of Paducah ,Kentucky. I've been to Keepsake and this one is much larger.

Diane Thank you. Was just wondering if there was another one in Buena Park. The blog Sandy posted showed Buena Park also. Guess they meant Anaheim.[/quote] It's right on the line X the two cities. |
Thanks for sharing. I'm overwhelmed with the virtual tour! :)

Mary Jo's is located in Gastonia, NC near Charlotte.

The largest quilt store in America is fabricdepot.com. They have over 100,000 items and fabric like you have never seen before. If you cannot find the fabric in a theme that you are searching for, go there. I have been looking for a child's fabric featuring elephants for my future great-grand child.. They had it at Fabric Depot. Prices are also more reasonable.
|
Hmmm...
I think I need to make a road trip to some of these shops. Nothing near this size in my neighborhood. :-( |
I think quality of fabric before I think of quantity. What is the use of quantity if it takes 2-3 times as long to hunt for the good quality fabrics that will last 100 years and are much easier to sew on? I sure learned my lesson with the local Wa-Mart.

One of my favorite shops that has over 10,000 bolts of high quality cotton fabric is Quilter's Station in Lee's Summitt, Missouri. I can spend HOURS in that store! I love batiks and they have a very large selection of batiks. One thing I love is the arrangement of their store. It's so easy to find what you are looking for with the way the store is arranged. The walls are covered with samples and everytime I've asked for the fabric for a quilt on display, they have kits to match if you prefer a kit! Fantastic store and a discount area in the back room. They also sell wool and supplies in one small section of the store for penny quilts and primitive stitching. And, if you love small gift items, they are displayed tastefully around the store at reasonable prices! Can you tell I LOVE this store? Here is the web address...but seriously if you are ever traveling east of Kansas City on I70 just pop south on I470....it will be well worth the detour!

Okay....I can't stop at one! Another fantastic shop is Homestead Hearth in Mexico, Missouri. It's just north of I70 less than an hour west of St. Louis. It's in a small town just off the town square. I get lost in that store...there are patterns and fabric everywhere (displayed nicely - not messy) but there is just soooo much to look at...it's amazing. I've purchased the fabric there for two of my quilts and countless other projects. I'm not sure how many bolts....but I dare say it's thousands. And...they probably beat any store when it comes to patterns. It's amazing. They specialize also in historical and civil war prints but they carry all types of cotton quilting fabric...high quality....not cheap quality. I love this store! Here is their website!

Where is it? I'm going to be in Houston next week and I have looked for quilt shops before with no luck.
