Hi I am new to quilting and I was wondering what the largest quilt shop is in America? I live in Houston and the largest one near me has 10,000 bolts. Thanks!
Interesting question.
Wouldn't it be Keepsake Quilting in N.H.?
Yes I think Keepsake is the largest.
What about Mary Jo's in Charlotte or there is one in Kentucky that I can't remember the name of. And then there is Hancock's of Paducah.
I'll put up M&L Fabrics in Buena Park, CA against any of them. I think they converted a grocery store to a fabric shop. It is a 3.5 hour drive from my house, but I am planning a trip there this summer. You can read about it here:

What is the name of that one in Houston? Just curious. Hate to think I am missing anything...lol
There is a large one in Boulder, CO, but not how it would compare to the 10,000 bolts. OMG, where to begin in that store!
Never thought about this before.

Loving Stitches Quilt Store - 7076 Ramsey Street
Fayetteville, North Carolina 28311 (910) 630-3912....10,000 sq ft...found them online. |
mary jo's website says 32,000 sq ft and 30 employees on the floor at any time! It is huge!
I don't know if Marshall Dry Goods Co in Batesville, AR is considered a quilt store but they have a huge warehouse full of quilt fabric.
Where is this?

I really like this question but just wish we had something other than Joann's in my area. I think I know every bolt in the quilting dept. at Joann's. That's alright though as I've learned the trick of how to use their 50% off coupons when the quilting fabric in on sale. Look for the higher end fabric and get a great bargin, smile.

The Painted Pony in La Porte has 10,000 bolts. Quilters Cottage in Richmond (where I live) has 6,000.

I googled largest quilt shop in America and keepsake quilting came up.
Keepsake claims over 10,000 bolts, but Rosie's Calico Cupboard in San Diego, CA claims over 18,000.
I love this question. I now have a number of other locations to check out when DH and I are traveling around the United States. I'd like to add in Rosie's Calico Cupboard in San Diego, CA - 20,000 bolts of cotton and a huge room of tools along with a sea trunk full of buttons. Fun stop and no too overwhelming. But now I have my eiye out on visiting M and L in Anaheim. Thanks everyone, keep them coming.

Not sure how many bolts, but Fabric Depot in Portland, OR is "an acre and a half of fabric"!
Thank you AgapeStitches,
I'm going to be in South Carolina in May and will find this place during our visit.

You're welcome.
Mary Jo's is huge but it also carries other fabric. They have quilting (great selection), bridal, upholstery, and apparel fabric. It's like a candy store for people who sew.

*Sounds like road trip fodder to me* |
Ditto! Clothing, stuffed animals, home/car accessories, totes for boats/cars/animals/people. I just love the challenge of finding fun, new fabrics and seeing what I can make from them. Whenk I quit smoking 25+ years ago I took up sewing - this new habit is still cheaper then a pack of smokes in my opinion.

Let me know (send pm) when you will be in the area and maybe we can visit Mary Jo together at the store (she is a very nice lady).
I actually got DH into Mary Jo's in Charlott. I never thought that would happen.

Their cotton selection is HUGE! But realize at least 1/2 the store is other types of fabric (decorating, formal gowns, lace, etc). Is the one in Houston "High Fashion Fabrics"? Do they have that much in quilting fabrics? Because last time I went (which was Many years ago before their move), they had more of the high fashion than any real quilting material. |
Oh my gosh! wouldn't it be fun to go on a huge "Shop Hop"?
I forgot about High Fashions..haven't been there in years. Use to be the go to place when I was making formals for the daughter. Don't know about their quilting fabric. Will check them out next time I haul downtown to lunch with DH.
Oh I have been to Rosies and it is a Plaza itself it has rooms of fabrics great place

Wow. I'd just be happy to have more small quilt shops in my area. We have 2 very small ones, and they don't even have as much of a selection as Walmart :(

My bet would be Marshall's in Ar They have 5 wearhouses full of fabric. But that is probably not considered a stictly a quilt shop, more of a fabric shop.
