Has anyone seen this? http://www.quiltersqtrs.com/lay-a-way.asp

sewcrafty 05-20-2010 05:04 AM

That's something I've never seen before!!! I don't know if its a good or bag thing!!  Interesting concept.

Ms Grace 05-20-2010 05:05 AM

Oh my!
That could be dangerous.
Has anyone ever ordered from them?

sewjoyce 05-20-2010 05:14 AM

I've ordered from them in the past -- they have excellent customer service....

redkimba 05-20-2010 05:29 AM

Oh, that is a VERY dangerous thing...

Temptation, get thee behind me!!!

littlehud 05-20-2010 06:17 AM

That could be my downfall. :-D

Pam 05-20-2010 06:45 AM

I am not even going to look!

I am here to tell ya I agree its a very dangerous thing.....great customer service which makes it even easier/harder?

Marjpf 05-20-2010 09:14 AM

I'm too into instant gratification. I have enough trouble waiting for the package when I order on line. I can only imagine if I had to wait 60 days to get something! I'd be a wreak.

Gramof6 05-20-2010 09:21 AM

Oh my! This could be dangerous. My luck by the time I got it, I wouldn't really like it anymore. Or would have forgotten what I ordered it for. :D I've never seen Layaway for fabric. I do remember when it was a common thing in all the dept Stores, even WalMart.

quiltluvr 05-20-2010 10:14 AM

If it wasn't for layaway back in the day my poor kids wouldn't have had clothes. I did supplement with yard sales. I think the quality of the clothes was even better then too.

The cotton patch quilt shoppe in East Tawas, Michigan has been offering a lay away program for a long time, you put into your cart what you would like, they cut your fabric and put it aside, charge you for 1/3 of the cost plus the shipping,,,then over the next 2 months they charge the other 2/3, then send you your package..i am always too impatient, have not tried it, when i order fabric i usually want it yesturday ;) but i have a friend who used the program last year to do some christmas shopping...she loved the whole program.

saf45 05-20-2010 12:42 PM

amma 05-20-2010 01:23 PM

Joyce.... I don't know whether to say thank you :D:D:D
Or to say, "Thanks a LOT, Joyce!!!!" :P  :-P

aurora41 05-20-2010 01:30 PM

For us "Quiltaholics" it will be a never ending project. We may end up getting a new lay away before finish paying for the first one. We will be broke.

Holice 05-20-2010 02:04 PM

But will I still want it in 60 days. I want it now so I can start cutting tonight.

winia 05-21-2010 05:17 AM

I do this all the time on HSN and QVC, and it works fine.
They do not leave it up to you to pay it. They will
automatically every month at the same time take the
required payment out of your checking account or charge it
to your credit card or whatever. I bought a new sewing machine that way and a new serger that way.

winia 05-21-2010 05:20 AM

Does it say they won't send it to you for sixty days? I
believe they send you the fabric immediately upon payment
of the first amount, and then you will pay the rest as the
months go by, but that thought did not occur to me that
they wouldn't send the fabric right away.

dglvr 05-21-2010 05:49 AM

Uhho. I think they are on to something. What a great idea.
Its an awesome site too. Lots of great stuff and free patterns.
Yaaaaaaaa.

OmaForFour 05-21-2010 06:29 AM

I would get in trouble with that. Better that I pay up front.

It says they send the fabric after the last payment has been made. Otherwise... they might never get paid! You know how money has a habit of leaking away... by the time they tried to charge the customer's credit card for the final installment, the money might not be there.

GrammaNan 05-21-2010 09:13 AM

Thank goodness I am into instant gratification otherwise, I would be in BIG trouble.

BKinCO 05-21-2010 09:15 AM

....I'm not looking..............I'm not looking.............I'm not looking............maybe if I say it enough times I'll believe it

PennyLynn 05-21-2010 09:38 AM

I think this is funny, but a cleaver way to up your sales.

quiltluvr 05-21-2010 10:03 AM

For what it's worth, from my personal perspective, it seems to be a really good idea, win-win for consumer and shop owner.

Consumer perks:
--can better "afford" shop prices. Doling it out a bit at a time takes so much sting out of it.
--it's easier on the budget.
--able to purchase new lines as they debut and not have to scramble all over trying to get the collection from multiple shops.
--don't have to wait until you have all the money.
--the agonizing anticipation of knowing it's there.

Shop perks:
--happy customers.
--guaranteed sales.
--can better anticipate fabric selections to carry.
--increased sales.
--repeat customers.
--word of mouth traffic.
--possible trend-setting???

Not sure monetarily how it would work to benefit the shop when a layaway is canceled. Now they have a specific size piece to resell. So would it be done "as is" or marked down and clearanced?

Either way, I'm attracted to the idea and may try it out after looking into it more.

beachlady 05-21-2010 10:13 AM

Too tempting!! But I also like to get my fabric ASAP, so probably would never use it.

zz-pd 05-21-2010 11:14 PM

thank you for the site. God bless. Penny

mygirl66 05-22-2010 02:48 AM

I cant wait for my stuff, I want it now so I can take it home and play with it!

marsye 05-22-2010 02:50 AM

I figure if I can't pay for it then I don't need it.

Antoinette 05-22-2010 07:28 AM

I wouldn't remember what I bought or wouldn't like it anymore. I have pieces in the cupboard I look at and wonder why????

Holice 05-22-2010 09:07 AM

now a days the fabric would be outdated in 60 days

sewmuchmore 05-22-2010 03:15 PM

I am not even going to look. What I don't know want hurt me  I have very little will power. besides I love to feel the fabric before I buy. I got that from My mother she had to feel everything before she would buy not only fabric but clothes as well.

Meaning that their fabric quality is great and the turnaround time for ordering, processing is excellent?

I usually resist ordering on line because I too am into instant gradication but some other person took over my fingers on the keyboard the other day, I ordered from Sew W/Nancy, Joanns, & Clotilde....impatiently tapping fingers waiting for goodies to get here . BTW>>>>I too used to be layaway queen back when.

CarrieAnne 05-28-2010 06:24 AM
