Layer cake patterns?

I have 1 Lovely layer cake and 2 yards of dark floral for border. Trying to use what I have. Do you have a "go to" pattern (free) for layer cakes? Would a d4p be appropriate? Log cabin? I have surfed online and nothing is jumping out at me. Suggestions sure would be appreciated!

I like the Double Slice Layer Cake quilt. Here is one with sashing, but you can also make the blocks with no sashing. http://www.nancysfabrics.info/2012/1...-tutorial.html

I like the Double Slice Layer Cake pattern from Missouri Star. I have a picture of one too, which I will try to find. This goes together quickly and sort of ends up looking like Yellow Brick Road or Take Five.

Just in case it might work for you...

Funny, we both suggested the same pattern at the same time!!

I too have made the double slice quilt from the MSQC. If fact, I have made several of them. I love the pattern.

Sorry about the long link! I worked on it for 15 mins! How about a Disappearing pinwheel from MSQC? Here is a picture of the ones I did for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. There is also another way to set these from the same pinwheel. It looks more like a Churn Dash with a pinwheel center.

I made this one. She gives you two sizes. If you click on the small pictures you can see various color ways.

I just finished one that is soft pastels and all I did was sew the squares together, 6 across and 7 down, sew a thin border and then a wide one. It turned out very nice and was easy to do. It took longer to place all the squares where I wanted them then to sew them together.

Love the double slice pattern. I have several layer cakes I've won at guild so this would be a great pattern.
