Layout question, D4P

My DH met some of his birth siblings about 3 years ago. And one has become my best friend and sister i never had. She is amazing taking care of a moody teen boy who found girls exist and a kindergardener who is special. She puts them all first and never utters a squeak of negativity or weakness. Hubby drives trucks so he isnt often home. She never asked for a quilt but recently said that she considered anyone worthy of a handmade gift as being very loved indeed.

i have collected these fabrics over a year for her, but until the recent swap of a D4P twist i was stumped what pattern to do. So saturday i ironed and cut, sunday I sewed and pressed and still have 20 blocks to go. The question i have, sashing or abutted?

I like it without sashing...gives it a nice lattice look to me.

Either. But for size you might prefer sashing as well as a border.
The quilt is very pretty! How special of you to give this to her.

I have plenty of fabric to make this any size i want, and for borders and flanges. I am open to rolling them onto points for something different.

I'm no help but it's going to be beautiful whatever you do! She'll love & appreciate it!

I think I would like it with sashing to show each block. but it would look good either way. Try some with a sashing and some without. See which way appeals to you.

I love your picture, by sewing the blocks together it creates another dimension of diagonal lines. A thin yellow border and then a thicker border of blue perhaps would complete this quilt beautifully IMHO of course :)

I vote for sashing with a high contrast color to make the individual blocks stand out. I love what you have so far. Pls post again after you decide how to finish it so we can see your progress.

Lovely blocks, your sister in law will feel the love! IMHO I think a deep blue for sashing would be perfect, then a narrow deep yellow border and another wider border in either deep blue, or scrappy with deep blue.

I'm also really liking the lattice effect of the blocks touching, but whatever you decide will look beautiful. Love the colors you chose!
