I was just wondering if anyone has ever made one of these, and if so, was it easy? Did you enjoy making it? And, does anyone have pictures of their finished bags.

I am kind of intimidated about making purses. They just do not look that easy. So, before I go out and spend money on a pattern that is too difficult, or make so many mistakes that I waste fabric, (I do not have much of a stash to be able to afford that kind of a mistake) I would appreciate any input.

sewingsuz 04-02-2011 05:33 PM

I have not seen this one, however have made lots of purses, I don't like the patterns with zippers so I change them to suit me. Good luck

This might help:
http://www.kayewoodtv.com/ktv/index....ink=true&chn=3
and Lazy Girl has a Yahoo site.

SundarKoyal 04-02-2011 05:41 PM

Hi Emmy,

Yes, I have already been to that website. Though it is a brief explanation of the purse, I would still have to make my way through the instructions. Some bags seemmm easy enough, but when you start reading the instructions... ugh, too hard. Oh, and also, I just wanted opinions from the message board.

SewingSuz, I also do not like to mess with purses that have zippers. loll. That is why I figured the little Sassy Bag would be easier to make.

Quiltforme 04-02-2011 05:47 PM

This bag looks pretty simple and if you need help there are several of those on here that can help. I have a lot of faith in you to make it. In the days of home ec class we made these and they were not that hard to do. Just jump in and try it you will surprise yourself!!!

Hey if you decide to make the bag You can PM me and I can help!!

SundarKoyal 04-02-2011 05:52 PM

Thanks, Jade! I will wait and see if JoAnn's has the pattern - I have a 50% off coupon I can use. Have to wait for the 10th though...that is when the coupon is good for.

I will add your name to my buddy list so I will not forget if I run into trouble or problems once I get the pattern.

I never saw Kaye Wood's website- thanks!!! :D:D

Sundarkoyal, good luck. I also have problems with patterns for purses. :)

sewingsuz 04-02-2011 06:11 PM

I looked at the website and I think it is fairly easy. Go for it and show us pictures. You can do it.

JenniePenny 04-02-2011 06:13 PM

I have made this bag twice. It was fun.

It came out great both times. The instructions were very well written.

SundarKoyal 04-02-2011 07:19 PM

Thanks arbed31 for showing me your finished purse. It looks so adorable. I love the bold colors. it looks so cute and fun.

Thanks ladies for the support (sue and suz), helps in the confidence department.

Hey Jennie, Good to hear that you have made not one but two of these purses and that the pattern instructions gave you no issues!

bakermom 04-02-2011 07:32 PM

The directions for the Lazy Girl bags are usually pretty clear . There is also a Yahoo group for Lazy Girl that you might like.

SundarKoyal 04-02-2011 07:46 PM

I will check out the Yahoo group for the Lazy Girl again. I went previously and did not see a whole lot there. Maybe I was in too much of a hurry. Thanks!

raedar63 04-02-2011 08:04 PM

I have made everyone of the lazy girl bags, They are very easy and the instructions nice and clear.

SundarKoyal 04-02-2011 08:17 PM

Actually, I just noticed that I was on the wrong website. I think I was on her blog. I joined the Yahoo group and it is pending. I hope to be able to read what others have to say. Should be informative and fun. Thanks again.

kim_s 04-02-2011 09:03 PM

Hi, I just wanted to add my 2 cents....the first purse I ever made was the Miranda Lazy Girl bag. I was a bit intimidated but you just can't beat the excellent directions coupled with the detailed pictures that are included in the instructions. They detail every step. I'm sure you will have no problem following. Be sure to show us a pic when you're done!

Kim

SundarKoyal 04-02-2011 09:39 PM

Hey Kim,

These Lazy Girl bags are actually nice looking. Thanks for letting me know that the instructions come with detailed pictures. Pictures help out soooooooooo much. Sometimes it can be hard to figure out what they are saying... but if they show a picture along with the words, then it's more like, "Ahhhhh, I get it now!" Okay, I feel quite confident after reading everyone's thoughts that I can just go ahead and get the pattern with no worries. I will definitely post a picture once I have finished my Sassy Bag!

sueven 04-03-2011 04:24 AM

I have one of them It's the first purse my DD made. She says it's easy to make.

meanmom 04-03-2011 05:10 AM

I have made a lot of purses. Not this particular one. The first one I made was a little bit hard. I don't like to read directions. I found the directions different to read than a quilt But once you do one purse it seems the others are all easier.

CountryStitching 04-03-2011 07:52 AM

I have made several with that pattern. Have given them all away so no picture. I love Lazy Girl patterns. Easy and fun. Word of caution about JoAnn coupons. My latest ones say (in the fine print) cannot be used on any pattern. Good luck with your project.

Katiequiltsalot 04-03-2011 08:01 AM

I do a lot of purses. If you need any help I'm here. I'm sure you'll do just fine.

nclauri 04-03-2011 08:41 AM

I have made one and it was very easy. It is on the small side, which for me, is perfect. I really love the small size and the strap is long for a cross the body bag. I don't have any photos of it to post.

Sewslow 04-03-2011 09:06 AM

I made several gifts from her Wonder Wallet pattern and the instructions were very explicit and easy to follow. I'm glad to be reminded of her patterns and made aware of her website.

Judith 04-03-2011 09:08 AM

any pattern from Lazy Girl designs is easy to follow. Got for it!

Mommomjoann 04-03-2011 09:44 AM

Has anyone had trouble sewing through all of the layers of the purse? seems that when I sew all of the layers my bobbin jams up...what a mess. I think it is too thick for the top thread to catch with the bobbin. Any suggestions out there?

meanmom 04-03-2011 10:51 AM

I have that problem sometimes I try a denin or a leather needle. Sometimes that helps

Melinda in Tulsa 04-03-2011 11:03 AM

I made one and it was very easy. I'm a visual learner and the pictures helped me alot. The only thing I can fault it for, is I wish it was a bit larger. Next one I make I'm going to try to enlarge it. Sorry, I don't have a pic.

snicktrain 04-03-2011 11:35 AM

Joan Hawley (Lazy Girl Designs) also has a very good tut on zippers. I'd thrown all my zippers out and then had to retrieve them. So easy, and no zipper foot needed. :-)

These Sassy bags are so easy. I have made at least 10 of these bags for gifts and for myself. They are perfect when you go on a trip or a quilt show because you can put the strap over your neck and then hold the bag close to your body. Very safe when traveling any where. These are two I made for Christmas presents a few years ago. The buttons are different colors. You just can't see it in the picture. I have even embroidered a design on the flap on some of them. Try them! They go together really fast.

I have a question about zippers in purses. I understand they're easier to work with on purses as opposed to skirts and dresses. I've got a built in aversion to them from early garment days.

What are your thoughts about using velcro small strips for small zippered pockets?

Emmy, thanks for the link to this site. These bags are so much more simpler than the ones I've been making, so it will take a lot less time.

That sounds like a plan to me. I have seen smaller purses - with small type pockets that actually had velcro instead of the zipper. The Lazy Girl Bags, some of them have the velcro and some styles have the zipper. But, if you watch a video, she demonstrates how easy it is to incorporate a zipper onto a purse. It did not seem that hard to me - atleast the way she did it.

SundarKoyal 04-03-2011 05:14 PM

Skaduzy! Your purses look soooooo adorable. And I can actually see that the buttons are two different colors. Love the fabric choice for the purses too.

I am so happy to have gotten such a response from everyone. Thanks so much.

Dogwood Quilter 04-03-2011 06:06 PM

Keep us posted on your progress with some pictures please. I have done several Lazy Girl designs and love them.

Mommomjoann 04-04-2011 04:08 AM

I will try a demin needle.. Thanks for the help!

I have made dozen's of the Lazy Girl purses but most were Gracie. She makes it very easy to understand.

SundarKoyal 04-05-2011 09:26 AM

Sculpyfan... Your Gracie bags turned out great! The one with the money fabric is so funny. I could imagine you walking down the street in New York, and a mugger sees your bag and thinks, "Hmmm, looks like she's got what I need!"

sculpyfan 04-05-2011 01:52 PM

Yeah ! Now if I could just spend it.
