Leave it?
1 Attachment(s)
I am sewing my scrap blocks and noticed the cream fabric on the bottom is the wrong side up. If it was just the case of picking it out and resewing, I would. Since it has the angle, turning over the fabric will not work. I could just throw it out because I have more (another 2X5piece below)but I think I am just going to leave it. I am using all different neutrals anyway so I don't think it will stand out. Would this drive you crazy?

Hi Tartan. I wouldn't worry about it because once you are finished, no one but you will notice it. Just make sure that another light is next to the backward one. I am going to try this pattern too. I have so many plaids and saw this pattern using a whole lot of them. Looking good as usually.

I wouldn't worry about it.
I agree with ManiacQuilter2 and would just leave it.
It depends on how much it will bother you. If every time you look at the quilt, your eye will be automatically drawn to it, I would fix it now when it is relatively easy.
I would leave it. You paid for both sides of the fabric, and you can use either side you want. I have made several quilts where I intentionally used the "wrong" side because I was looking for "just that color." Besides that, that piece looks fine.

I'm not sure that I would leave it. It does look just fine, but my OCD would kick in and I think it would bother me. How much OCD do you have? If the answer is not much, then leave it. You did buy both sides of the fabric after all. You could use a couple more of the upside down colors and convince yourself that you meant to do that. I don't think it would bother me as much if there were several pieces that way.

I would leave this, but would make sure to use the reverse side of the fabric similarly in other places in the quilt -- it will add to the scrappy look.
I agree with leaving it, esp since you can barely tell and it is a scrappy. Only you know what you want, how about leaving it for a while, then later, if it keeps bugging you, then fix it.
The neutral color is so light, no one would notice, I would leave it. But I am not a perfectionist! If you are, take it out, replace it and save that piece for another scrappy quilt!
Think of it as "artistic license"
Nothing in the rule book says you can't use that side of that fabric. I have used the same material several times and when I want a distinct look, the leaves are on top. When I want a softer look, the leaves go on the bottom.

Wouldn't bother me one bit because of all the other neutrals.
If it was me - I probably wouldn't have even noticed until after I had sewn it all up and quilted and bound it. Lol
It wouldn't bother me at all. I read somewhere that the Amish purposely put an error in each quilt, because only God creates perfection. Don't know if that is true or not, but I kind of like the idea of being humble and accepting than less than perfect is quite acceptable. |
You know, there's nothing I hate worse than ripping mis-sewn pieces or blocks. If it doesn't show up, I'd leave it where it is!

Sue I do say, it's your quilt, you do what makes you happy!! Regards, Kif |
One show I watched many years ago a lady used both sides of the fabric because she needed a lighter version of the fabric and that is how she got it. She said it was like having new fabric without having to buy more fabric.
On my Asian LC I purposely used the wrong side of many of my lights because the right side was a bit too dark. I would leave it and even mix in a few more wrong side up pieces to get more variety in the lights.
I've done it, so rather than take it apart, I just do it again a few times. Design decision
Yes. Especially if I caught it at a stage when I could change it.
But that's me. (There are so few things in my life that I have any "control" over - that may be why I am so picky about the things I make.) |
It looks fine to me, especially since it's more of a tone on tone. I would only change it if it bothers you.
Been there, done that, and no one but me was the wiser. And now even I have forgotten which quilts have which problems.
I would leave it also. I just recently did this and left it, got it quilted and then mentioned it to someone we still haven't found it!!
I would take it apart to fix it. Why? Because it would make me nuts!
I would leave it too. Because you have so many neutrals it just looks like a different fabric. No problem
I would leave it, too, especially since your quilt is scrappy. It would bother me if there was only one beige fabric throughout, but with scrappy, anything goes.
Also, I forget who says this, but you pay for both sides of the fabric, so feel free to use them both. |
Just leave it. You'll never notice with the variety of fabrics you're using.

Another perfectionist/OCD/nutter here! :D It looks absolutely fine but I would take it out. P.S. is this a pattern that's available for purchase? If so, please could you give me the name? It looks like it's going to be an awesome quilt!

Pretend you are Amish. ;)

I just spent an afternoon ripping apart 6 chevron blocks because I had mucked them up using the directional fabric incorrectly. I tried to talk myself into leaving them; didn't look bad really but after 3 days telling myself it was fine.....arrrggghhhhhh...I just couldn't leave them. Particularly after I learnt how I could've/should've avoided it in the first place.....thankyou all the kind QB peoples, another little lesson learnt!
Yes, this would drive me nuts, leaving it wrong side up. If you can't stop thinking about it, change it, you'll be glad you did. lol
yes it would dmc......but I'd still leave it and then not look at it again!! LOL......but to tell you from what I see it really isn't bad.....just don't tell anyone - they'll never notice !!!
I have done exactly what you did too. I left it. No one in the world will notice. It just looks like a different piece of fabric.
So....what did you decide to do?? |
I'd either leave as is and sew all other pieces of this same fabric back-side-up, or else replace it. Otherwise, your eye (and probably only your eye, but that's important too) will always seek out that single piece.
It would drive me nuts , also. I am a perfectionist. If it were me I would rip it out . It's only one piece.
I would leave it. No one will know unless you tell!
If you tried to explain the "error" to someone after it is finished, (and what quilter doesn't do that?) you would have a very hard time getting them to understand what you thought was wrong. I'd leave it alone if I were you. If you want to drive someone crazy, ask them to find the error in your quilt after it is finished.
BTW, beautiful block! Want to try that one too!
No. It won't matter to anyone else. They'll never know. Just you, and with all the other colors and patterns, it will disappear! Carry on and keep sewing
