I love them but the things I have made from them has a problem with the gold washing off after awhile. My DD chose a beautiful fabric with the gold and I am making her a queen size now. I told her she was going to have that problem but she wanted it anyway and it is so beautiful.

I usually don’t use metallics, but am currently working on a strip quilt with primarily gold and silver metallics. I am really liking the result. But I do worry about how well the metallics will hold up to washings. But thisquilt is for my guest room so won’t get heavy use.

For my first project I've decided to go ahead and use the glitter, foil, gold, and silver embellishments -- basically if it isn't plain it's going in. I even have a name for the project, usually I have pretty basic names like "purple quilt" or "9-patch". This one I'm going to call "Scrap Metal"! I'm big on planing, but I'm going ahead with this and see what I have so far. Not quite sure what the final block size will be even, still have to make one to find out! Not sure either if I have enough prepared. I'm just using the blocks that were given to me and some I had in my own 6.5" square stack. So the triangles are cut and matched into pairs and are waiting next to the sewing machine for my attention. Have plenty more fabric if I need it...

Today I went to a quilt shop and in the window was a similar project done with just 4 fabrics, they twisted the blocks so they met as squares on either side of the lattice if that description makes sense. It was nice, didn't see a name for the project but they had a "5 yard quilt" sign on it.

I'm thinking in my case since the way I am constructing the blocks the edges will be on the bias that I will frame each block with a narrow frame instead of lattice sashing. I'm thinking half the blocks will be black and the other half will be various shades of grey I have in my stash and they will be in diagonal color rows, every other row black.

I made a quilt totally appliqué on a black tonal background. Many of the fabrics are metallic and it is very striking. It will not be washed often, so I am hoping the metallic holds up. I did prewash the fabrics with no gold loss.

There are 3 types: gold gilded (printed with gold ink), glitter (gritty) and pearlized (Fairy Frost). Don't like the glitter, but love the other 2.

I've had to wait for 13 years to get metallic fabrics in our store. Now I'm the manager, and got to order some in. Here's a picture of the quilt I made with Morris Holiday by Moda. Wish I had used black in the background. Guess I'll have to make another one!

Not a fan of glitz although I love Asian prints. My Mom, "Mrs. Glitz," tends to send me t-shirts and other things with glitter on them.

I'm not a big fan of metallic, but I did make a Christmas quilt using one of the metallic precuts. That was an accident, didn't realize it was metallic when I ordered it. It came out nice. The sparkle stuff I dislike immensely. I made a dog bandanna once for my Great Dane that had that sparkle stuff on it. It took weeks to get it off my ironing table, and I still find bits of sparkle where I don't want it. I think the metallics and sparkles are made better than tthey used to be made, seem to hold up better when washed, and don't shed like they used to. But I still think a little goes a long way when incorporatting metallic in my quilting.

I'm a blingy girl, but no glitter fabric, too rough, glitter gets on everything.

But...in the 90's when Hoffman came out with their asian themed fabric with gold ink? Went mad.
I've used it in many quilts and over time the gold does wash off, but it leaves a pleasing neutral line so the beauty of the design isn't lost.
But because it does wash out, I wouldn't seek out metallic fabric now, why bother?

As much as I love bling I don't like it in fabrics. However, Quilted Sunshine- yours is fantastic!!!!
