Is this light blue too dark?

I am making sort of a rainbow Bargello. I am sort of following a pattern called Glacier Bay by Elieen Wright, though I have changed the colors and the sizes of the strips so much that it is only going to be sort of that pattern. :)

My question is the light blue. I want this to look like several rainbows in a blue sky. The blue I have ended up using is not as light as I really wanted it to be. IF I am going to change it, I need to make that decision now, before I get too many more pieces up on my design wall. I want it to look like rainbows in the sky...okay, not realistic rainbows, but still rainbows.

So, is the light blue too dark?

I think it's a good "after the rain" blue.

ckcowl 12-27-2015 12:12 PM

I don't think the light blue is too dark, it looks like a nice shade of blue sky and there is good contrast between it and the other colors.

geevee 12-27-2015 12:15 PM

If the pic is a good representation I think it's just right.

loisf 12-27-2015 12:17 PM

I don't think it's too dark at all. Looking out at our sky right now, I see that it's even darker than your fabric. Of course, this is a cold, Minnesota winter sky. Maybe it's lighter in Texas. Seriously, I think it's fine and will make a beautiful quilt.

Jeanne S 12-27-2015 12:17 PM

I think it works fine. I wonder if you could find one that has light blue shades "mottled" with white that would simulate a blue sky with wispy clouds? I have seen fabrics like that in lines like Basic Grey. It will be a bright and cheery quilt! Can't wait to see the finished product you always make such great bargellos!!!

MadQuilter 12-27-2015 12:34 PM

I think it's perfect and makes the adjoining colors pop.

Dina 12-27-2015 12:42 PM

Thanks, everyone. That is the decision I have just made, and you made me feel better about it. :)

I think your blue will work just fine ... but I do really like Jeanne S's idea of a mottled blue with some white.

BETTY62 12-27-2015 02:55 PM

No, the shade of blue you used looks nice to me.

sewingsuz 12-27-2015 03:12 PM

I think it looks like the sky, very nice!

ro 12-27-2015 03:18 PM

looks fine to me but if you don't like it change it now. you just wont be happy later!

Mariposa 12-27-2015 03:19 PM

It looks great!

meyert 12-27-2015 03:35 PM

I think its a great blue and a pretty quilt in process there

QuiltnNan 12-27-2015 03:58 PM

i like the look of what you have so far

maryb119 12-27-2015 04:31 PM

I like it the way it is. It has enough color to hold it's own with the rainbow.

tessagin 12-27-2015 04:34 PM

I like it. Anxious to se it when finished, please.

illinois 12-28-2015 04:39 AM

I'm going to be the bad guy here. I like the shade of blue but I think there's too much of it. I liked the suggestion of the mottled blue and the one of using gray. Perhaps a blue-gray would be nice? Your rainbow colors are very nice but all I see is that blue.

orangeroom 12-28-2015 04:44 AM

I think that's a nice shade of "blue sky" color! Keep up the good work!

sewnsewer2 12-28-2015 04:53 AM

I think it balances it well. I'd go with it!

coopah 12-28-2015 05:25 AM

Keep going. It's looking good.

Jordan 12-28-2015 05:30 AM

I think it looks just great. You have a nice contrast there and it is a very pretty light blue.

jclinganrey 12-28-2015 05:31 AM

It looks fine to me. Of course, blue is my favorite color. Looking forward to seeing your finished rainbow bargello.

Actually, on my smallscreened tablet, the light blue does look mottled. Is it?

Texas_Sue 12-28-2015 06:08 AM

I think it makes the rainbow pop. I like it just fine. Hope you do, too.

Yes, it is. It has two shades of blue.

Dina, I just sent you a pm......

Boston1954 12-28-2015 07:54 AM

It looks just fine to me. You don't want to go too light or it will look like it faded.

Ikesgram 12-28-2015 09:33 AM

I really love what you have chosen. This should be a fabulous project-- lots of sewing but oh! so satisfying
in the end.

quiltingcandy 12-28-2015 09:51 AM

It looks great to me too. It may be it looks too dark to you because you are close to it. But it you look at it across the room - we see it in a small picture, it looks very nice.

MargeD 12-28-2015 10:19 AM

I think it's a perfect blue sky color. You will have a beautiful quilt when you're done, can't wait to see it.

klswift 12-28-2015 01:48 PM

I do not think it is too dark. I think having it between the purple and red sets it perfectly. It 'has a place'. If it were lighter I think it would be too washed out.

Maggie_Sue 12-28-2015 03:54 PM

I agree withe the majority!!! Beautiful blue IMHO!!!

Thanks, everyone. I have continued with the blue and really like it now. Already thinking about borders. Here is where it is now....though only the 7 strips to the right have been sewn together.

beaqltr 12-28-2015 04:46 PM

The blue goes great with the other colors.

crafty-kid 12-28-2015 04:52 PM

beautiful...it's perfect!

geevee 12-28-2015 05:18 PM

Oh that's just lovely, Dina!

Auntevie 12-28-2015 06:16 PM

Perfect! It's going to be awesome!

justflyingin 12-29-2015 02:43 AM

I think it is perfect blue!

illinois 12-29-2015 04:18 AM

Ah, now I see it with the additional design and I love it! In your first post, it looked like a lot of blue but now I see "the rest of the story" and you have chosen well. Very pretty quilt.
