Lil Twister question

Thinking of getting Lil'Twister tool. Are the squares cut the same size as the tool? If this is the case, isn't there a lot of waste when cutting out?

I bought the Little Twister recently. Have my top of squares & borders done, but haven't cut out the pinwheels yet. Yes, there is extra fabric between the squares when you cut the pinwheel squares out. I plan to sew the extra pieces together for a pieced border around the pinwheels, so my finished pinwheel top will be closer to the size of the original top of squares.

There is waste but the end product is gorgeous.

No, they aren't. The squares are cut to 5" and sewn together....then you use the Twister to cut them down. However, you can use the small Thimble Template with your waste. (The large Thimble Template can be used with the waste of the regular Twister ruler.)

What's a Thimble Template?

The squares are always 1.5 inches square larger than your template......3.5 inch template =squares are cut 5 inches square...

I've seen a twister quilt where the quilter used her scraps to make a scrappy outer border.

I haven't used the Twister tool-I've made my twister quilts by the method in the book "Rotary Cutting Revolution" by Anita Grossman Solomon. I think there is less waste with this method.

While there is waste to the twister ruler.....I think the resulting quilt top is worth it. I've made a number of lapquilts using both the large and small.....they just look great when they're done....and everyone who sees them gives me positive feedback.

You will have scrap squares with bias edges left after you cut the twisters. This is how I used mine. Hope this helps.
