A little help fixing machine?
Hello, I've been working on a coat with my machine for a while and I'm at the final stitch to hem the bottom and the machine I have which is a Singer 7462 has decided to not work with me anymore on this.
I had already gotten it repaired by a repair expert and they said it'll never sew like it used to.
The machine won't form a stitch when I fold fabric over to hem the final part, though it would appear that the needle does penetrate. I sometimes crank the handwheel manually and do all the stitching manually when sewing on heavier duty fabric that the machine can't handle, I've broken quite a few needles already hoping the machine would penetrate but if I just go slow it has worked fine.
Weirdly, it has penetrated and formed a stitch on other heavy folded parts of the coat... But it just won't seem to form a stitch for my final hem. It's as if the hook won't catch the thread, but I have no idea what to do about that. I had already torn the machine apart and tried to adjust the shaft timing, but my hex key wouldn't budge so that's when I decided to take it to a repairman who said I made the machine worse taking it apart.
What can I do to get this machine to at least manually stitch again on heavy quilts? It will run fine on light fabric. What can I do to check and learn more about what the problem is?? I'm thinking of taking my project to a tailor just so they can sew the last line of stitching for 10 dollars if that's how cheap it might be, but that's quite a hassle.
A little extra information if maybe this is relevant: The bobbin case knocks around each time the shuttle hook passes. Not sure why, it's kind of loose. I'm not sure what seems to be hitting it.
