Log Cabin Center 'hearth' square
I've been pondering what color for this for a while.
For my next quilt project, I'm planning a Log Cabin Quilt. Always wanted to make one, but never got around to doing one. I'm making the logs a mixture of browns (darks) and creams (lights), but here is my dilemma. I'm at a loss of what color to make the center square out of. I would like a center that more represents the 'hearth' , but I don't know what would be better, a soft yellow or a brownish orange, or a deep dark red, or soft red? Or, just go with black. I can't seem to make up my mind. I don't want the center 'hearth' square to look out of place or stand out too much, but I also don't want it 'hidden' away either. I guess I could say I want it to be strong, but not aggressive. Any suggestions for the above colors or different color? |
Out of your choices I would choose either the brownish orange or deep red

I too would go for a deep rich red, log cabin is my favorite block, have fun and don’t forget to share your creations with us.

I just finished a LC with green, blue, yellow/orange logs with deep red center. Really looks cool. Have fun and try not to stress about color choice.

My log cabin quilts have all been very scrappy, so I don't choose just one color for the center. I typically dance around between shades of orange, yellow, and red.

you could use orange, red and yellow. mix them a bit.
|
My choice would not be black, it might look like a “hole” in the middle with your other fabric choices. IMHO

Here's mine, your plan sounds kind of similar, I hope this visual helps you decide. I did red in the center and yellow next to the red.

I like the red... probably because that is what I used in mine :)

golden yellow with your browns and creams would look great in my opinion.
