I am about to embark on my very 1st log cabin. I was also told it was easy, but that may be for some. I enjoy challenges, I'll take it one step at a time

I usually chain-piece about 10 at a time, press and square-up every two logs.
I love how the strips turn into blocks. |

I've made more log cabin quilts than anything (one even won an award at a quilt show), and I paper piece them. I don't have to worry about squaring up, make them 5 or 10 at a time, while watching a baseball game or something. My favorite part about paper piecing is not having to pay that close attention --- just have to remember my lights and darks, and that's it.
BTW...Great string quilt Peckish. |

I have the Eleanor Burns book but her technique won't work for my project. I have images of birds as the centre square and they all have to be upright and in a certain set pattern. I have six rows of six each and I chain stitch six at a time, following my grid. I still think it is necessary to keep checking to see that all the squares are even.
