Hi all, long time since I posted. I like both methods and have so many strip scraps that this has become my favorite pattern for using them quickly. I also use the foundation technique and use the uneven size strips. this makes a lovely scrap quilt. jolo

I like to sew pieces to a long strip and trimming later.

i like cutting the strips first then, chain stitching them. i did buy the new Log cabin ruler which makes it even easier to change size of the blocks etc. i love the Log cabin patterns, i did one for my daughter's college quilt called " Eating the Daisy's" that has little stars in the corners.

I want to try one so I will put this thread in my favorites to keep info handy. Thanks for advice. Teresa

My avatar is the very first quilt that I made last year using the "2nd Edition Start Quilting with Alex Anderson" book (found it on Amazon). Super easy instructions to follow.

What is the "quilt in a day" method?
|
Here is a tip that I learned and it will save your sanity, no matter which method you use to piece the block: Decide which fabrics will be the 2 last strips you sew on. One will be vertical and one horizontal (mine are usually on the sides which are dark). ADD 1/2" TO THE WIDTH ON THOSE STRIPS when cutting, before piecing. In other words, if you have cut 2 1/2" strips throughout, cut these 3" wide. That extra 1/2" (you could do 1/4" inch if you are a more experienced quilter) will allow you some "wiggle room" to square up your block (on the 2 dark sides) should your block be slightly too small. Happy piecing!

I made a tute here on the board after so many of you wanted to see how I put my Uneven Log Cabin together, here is a link:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...e-t106556.html It's like paper piecing but you leave the foundation in place, it's a great way to ensure accuracy and stability!:) |
