I bought them because I thought they would improve accuracy but haven't had time or opportunity to make a log cabin yet.

The only specialty rulers I have are the Tri-recs rulers. I have several patterns they have been helpful on.

Even better - i forget abiut the accu cut and my friend has one.

I have this die and love it! I cut strips from scraps and sort them by color. And all the different lengths make perfect strips for string piecing. If I didn't have the die cut machine, I'd buy the specialty ruler. Don't listen to others that say you don't need it. I don't need 95% of the items I have for quilting but the difference is I wanted them.

My neighbor made a log cabin for each of her 4 kids. She just uses a regular school ruler. I figure if she can do it that way then I have no reason to purchase another ruler. I saw one the other day and just was not going to pay the price.

i was wondering if I couldn't just use my strip cutter instead of buying the die.

I use the Creative Grids one and LOVE it. It is worth every penny. I have both sizes and have made about 6 LC quilts for charity using them. It is a method of cutting larger and trimming to the right size.

I have purchased the rulers and have used the rulers. IMHO they did make making a over-sized king quilt go faster while cutting. Sometimes I find with my regular rulers, I think I am on the correct line, cut and then start swearing, oops. So for me I am glad I have them.
