Look What Dear Husband Made To Help Me

3 Attachment(s)
Here is a few of the items that my dear husband has made to help me with my quilting, craft and embroidery work. First, I am always looking for ways to organize my collection of "stuff". I use a lot of ribbon and trim when I am making pin cushions. Here is what he designed. There are two dowels going from end to end that are removable for replacing the spool or adding one to the rack.

I was doing a lot of embroidery work on quilt squares. I have a difficult time sitting still. I have to be doing something with my hands so I was taking it in the car with me. He made this hoop for me to set between my legs. The weight of my legs secures the hoop stand in place. The hoop is also adjustable as to the angle. I like it a lot.

This is a large hoop that I use when I am hand quilting or embroidering. He saw one that a friend of mine had so he made me one. We put a thick padding on the base and it lets me use the base as a pin cushion. I also tie a small pair of thread snips around the leg with a piece of ribbon. I just sit it on my lap and start to work. He is so handy. It is great to have a handy man around the house. He also makes all my templates out of plexiglas and keeps my scissors sharpened and my machine in good repair. And, that wasn't even in my wedding vows. LOL

And, I'm sorry ladies, I don't rent him out and he is definitely not for sale.

I'm always amazed at how clever men can be with their tools. Those are good enough to be sold at the quilt shows. It's so nice that you show your love and appreciation of each other.

What a wonderful thing to do for you! I would take a handmade thoughtful gift over diamonds any day!

Wow, youre so lucky to havee a great husband and one that can build things

twinkie 09-24-2012 03:19 PM

If you will PM me your e-mail address, I will be glad to send you the pictures. It was hand made in 1936 by Mrs. Ruth Dixon in Tennessee. I am absolutely amazed at the scalloped edges. I have never seen them done the way Mrs Dixon did them. I am blessed enough to have three of Mrs. Dixon's quilts plus a baby blanket she did for her daughter in 1929. Donna

It is so wonderful when men not only actually pay attention to what we are doing but think of ways to help us do what we do. You are very blessed.

He is definately a keeper :-)

piepatch 09-24-2012 03:50 PM

Lock him up and don't let him out of the house! He is a keeper! He does such nice work, and how nice that he wants to make "tools" for you that makes your work/hobbies easier and more pleasurable. Odds are, you treat him much the same. :o

susie-susie-susie 09-24-2012 05:13 PM

What a guy. You hit the jack-pot with him. Those things are very nice, too. Thanks for sharing. My DH can't make a thing!!! He says he can but just doesn't want to--good excuse I guess.

Those are really great. If you are not going to "rent or sell", what about a lend-lease deal? Mine is really good with anything electrical:)

nhweaver 09-25-2012 03:19 AM

He should make up a few and bring them to quilt shows, he would be an instant success!!!

Lori S 09-25-2012 04:39 AM

What a lucky gal you are ! Those are wonderful tools he made for you. Any chance he has a brother? ( LOL).

quiltinggirl 09-25-2012 04:44 AM

Your DH is definitely creative. I love the hoop he made that you can use while traveling in the car. Great idea!!

nygal 09-25-2012 04:48 AM

He sure is a keeper!!! I see lots of love in those projects!!

joyce888 09-25-2012 05:45 AM

Wonderful, useful quilting gadgets. Lucky lady.

SewExtremeSeams 09-25-2012 06:04 AM

Those are great tools your DH made for you. I, too, enjoy the blessings of DH who makes things to help me with my quilting. They are jewels, aren't they?

lillybeck 09-25-2012 06:35 AM

Can I borrow him for a few days? lol

katkat1946 09-25-2012 06:41 AM

Your ribbon holder is not only functional but also really, really pretty!

jcrow 09-25-2012 07:27 AM

You must be pretty special yourself to have snagged such a man. We can't forget that! Also, my man can't do what her's can, but he can't take a train 200 miles away without it leaving the tracks. How about that?

twinkie 09-25-2012 10:47 AM

That's great. I know you are just as proud. God gives different people different gifts. We are all blessed.

Sorry, he is an only child. But might consider a temporary lease LOL. However, it will have to be after he returns from Florida. Should be later this week. Thanks for the nice comments.

My husband takes care of our cars but I wouldn't let him touch my sewing machine or scissors. I still love him though. LOL

Krystyna 09-26-2012 03:12 AM

What a talented and wonderful husband you have! It is so lovely that he supports you in such a magnificent way!

johans 09-26-2012 03:21 AM

I don't think our quilting and crafting were in our vows either!

Woodster 09-26-2012 03:27 AM

It's so nice that he has time and talent combined. He does beautiful work and you both are very special to each other - it shows!

quiltnut4ever 09-26-2012 03:30 AM

Beautiful work! He's definitely a keeper!

Happy Tails 09-26-2012 04:01 AM

does he have a SINGLE brother? lol

loriea 09-26-2012 04:07 AM

He is a keeper, mine is handy with tools as well and I intend to keep him. (he has also taken up cooking ! :) However with tough economic times maybe you could barter his time for more fabric for your stash.:o

Scakes 09-26-2012 04:34 AM

Thanks for sharing the photos of the items your dh has made. They look great. Such a nice dh.

Mine is pretty helpful also. He has made templates for me; hung up some dowels from the ceiling for my ribbons; made a rack to hang my scissors and rotary cutters on; added shelves to the wall for things; modified a desk so my machine sits down in it rather than on top. It's wonderful having a live-in handyman. :)

callen 09-26-2012 04:37 AM

I have one of those handy "guys" too & I must admit I really should be more appreciative. My DH is so handy & even more so since I started quilting. When all I did was sew, he was helpful but not as much as now that I quilt. We are very lucky ladies to have such talent in the family. Koodos to them.

Bebbysews 09-26-2012 05:38 AM

That is such a good idea. I'll have my husband make one for me. He can build just about anything.

jamsbuying 09-26-2012 05:53 AM

You have a 'keeper'!
