She will be at dealer's probably a week since a tune-up and if necessary re-wiring, were part of the purchase price! Now for the bad part. She only has a zipper foot and 1 bobbin. Any suggestions on where to get the rest of her attachments? I'm pretty sure she takes a class 15 bobbin, probably the metal ones, but do they need to be vintage ones or are the new ones ok? Sorry for the many questions, but I am very excited and don't want to break my new toy! |
That is a very nice machine, it will sew well for you!!
|
Try Ebay for attachments and supplies. Nice machine, you'll love it, they don't make em like that anymore.
|
Congratulations!! I just bought a 201K treadle the other day, and from what I've learned, we are VERY lucky to have found these precious machines. They were considered top of the line, cream of the crop at the time. Enjoy her lots!

I can gift you the attachments that came with my 201. I never use anything but the walking foot I bought from Singer! The bobbins can be purchased at joAnns.

I have a 201-2, birthdate April, 1946. I have had 'her' since 1957. Here is what I have learned. Most of the FW attachments will fit the 201-2 because it is a low-shank machine. How do I know this, because I 'adopted' a 222 FW earlier this year after considerable research. My free-arm is a 1960 and all the attachments I have tried on the 222 I have tried on the 201-2. Maybe there is a 201 Fanatics group like there is for the FW's. Just start Googling for 201-2 Singer attachments. There is a website, www.singeroriginalvintageproducts.com The fellow's name is Duane. I know others will certainly repond to your questions and need. Libber

I have a 301-A that I brought home one day, it did need some bobbins, etc. I just went to the Singer website, and typed in the part I needed, there are tons of places you can get anything you want online, I was able to download the users manual for another machine I have.

Thanks Pat!

Greetings Tilladare, yes she is a beauty !!!!! Singer is the only machine that has never changed their needles. Doesn't matter what year the machine was made, if you buy Singer machine needles they will fit. Singer is the only machine that has 3 different sizes of shanks for feet. There is a short shank, a long shank, and a slant shank. Our shop carries needles, and various bobbins. The serial number for your machine should be on the bottom of your machine. Singer has a serial number search site, and you should be able to track where your machine was made, and a decade that it was made, and most importantly, a model number, and then you can find out which bobbin it needs. I think the bobbins are fairly common. And most importantly, you need to name your new little girl. The older machines had their serial numbers on the bottom, but it looks like yours is right on the front, right under neath the gold button underneath your reverse lever. And yes most of the new bobbins will fit your machine, but check with your local repair shop. Greetings, and welcome to the new addition to your family. From Auntie B, from starting to thaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. P.S. I have daylillies up 3" on the south side of the house. WTH, that's just crazy for the middle of March !!!!!!!!!

So sweet and I'll bet you didn't even have to use a leash for her. lol. Congrats.
|
Beautiful machine, lucky you.
|
Thank you everyone for the suggestions and congrats!
I just cant wait for her to come home (They said it would probably be a week). I am thinking seriously that Rosie would be a good name for her since she is in a case and weighs 40lbs. Only Rosie the Riveter would consider her a "portable"! |
She is a beauty! You will have fun getting aquainted.
|
So exciting, I know you are on pins and needles waiting for her to get out of ICU and come home to stay. Have loads of fun with "Ms. Rosie"

pretty cool, at least you don't have to feed it, but fabric. lol
|
Congrats! That looks like a sweet machine.
Please update us on how you end up liking it - if it becomes your go-to machine! |
My mother purchased a 201 model in 1941 (Just before the war started) Singer gave free lessons, and she made me take them..(I was 11 at the time) We were able to purchase extra pieces at the Singer Store... (I later worked for them, as a teacher, in 1954, in the Tremont Ave Store, Bronx, N.Y.) Your Singer store should be able to get other feet, and anything else you would wish. My main machine now is a Singer 319W...and I love it, even though I have a total of 7 machines,(mostly Singer) A Husquevarna, a serger, along with other toys, like 2 treadle machines, (one very old, made in Germany) and pleating machine.. you can see, I like my 'toys'... As soon as I can stand up straight again, I will try sewing with her. I threw my back out lifting her up onto my sewing table... Guess who will be cruising CL for a cabinet! LOL
