what a lovely machine and story...
If this machine has sat for all these years without use....you may need to have it looked at by a GOOD service man. The old oil and lube has probably turned to gunk.

What a splendid gift! Obviously well taken care of, too. Congratulations!

I just refurbished and basically rebuilt a vintage Viking. They're great machines. Do not force any of the dials if they're stuck. It will need servicing to get it back sewing correctly, but it would be worth it. These machines tend to lock up from non-use.

Looks like you got a great machine and just like new. The cabinet is very nice also.

I love your gift. I had a Domestic, put out by Eatons in 1959. Your cabinet reminds me of the machine I had. I have always regreted getting rid of my Domestic. I have never seen one like it since, but I'm always looking for one.

fayeberry 07-04-2012 07:49 AM

How wonderful! I sewed on a machine just like that for 30 years! It's a wonderful machine. Hope you will get it serviced for oil and grease after sitting unused for so long. It's a fantastic machine. My daughter still uses mine.

The sad thing is his wife passed away in June of 75 and only used the machine a few times. He never parted with it until now.

What a wonderful gift from a wonderful man!

I had one very similar and now my daughter is using it. I still have my mother's older model but something is broken and the dealer said they could no longer get the part. He offered to take it off my hands for free and then he would use it for parts. NOT....

He goes to my church. I have known him for 6 years now. Last November I was talking to him about how I liked older sewing machines and would like to have one some day. Well he went back to Florida for the winter. I had forgotten about our talk but I guess he had not because last Thursday I came home from work and there it was sitting by my door with a note on it saying, "Enjoy and take good care of her," Rod.

Jingle 07-05-2012 02:02 AM

Beautiful, it is brand new as she didn't use it that much. I would oil it up before trying to use it. I'm sure all the oil and grease it had is gone now. Lucky you.

nwm50 07-05-2012 05:28 AM
