Look What I Got

5 Attachment(s)
A beautiful Viking Sewing Machine 6430 in a lovely oak cabinet. It was given to me by an elderly man who brought it for his wife in May of 1975 for her birthday. It has all the cams and attachments. The sad thing is his wife passed away in June of 75 and only used the machine a few times. He never parted with it until now.

What a lovely gift - the machine and the cabinet are beautiful.

Tartan 07-02-2012 03:31 AM

Nice machine and cabinet! I've never seen one with fold down leaves on both sides, nice!

Daylesewblessed 07-02-2012 03:41 AM

That is a wonderful machine! Are all of the buttons and knobs free turning?

mhansen6 07-02-2012 05:13 AM

What a nice guy. I think he needs a quilt as a "Thank You".

lfstamper 07-02-2012 05:15 AM

What a wonderful gift. Will be difficult to repay but a quilt could be a nice momento!

If not, it would be worth your time to join the Yahoo group (Viking Sewing Machines pre-1980) to find a list of experienced and reputable repairmen to bring this beauty back to life. They are real workhorses and produces the loveliest stitches. There is a wealth of info available through the group and the moderator is an old sewing machine guy (OSMG) with years of experience.

And the cabinet is gorgeous too!

laralea 07-03-2012 05:02 AM

You have been blessed! You must be someone very special!

quiltmom04 07-03-2012 05:03 AM

When I finally parted with my mothers Elna, which was the same vintage, I felt much best because I gave it to someone who would love it. I'll bet that this man feels the same way. Try and make him something with it - soon- to show him how much you will love it, too!

KathyKat 07-03-2012 05:09 AM

That is really a great gift! Viking sewing machines are workhorses and the old ones were really made well.

jamsbuying 07-03-2012 05:27 AM

Very nice!!!!

Crafty1 07-03-2012 05:33 AM

Great treasure and touching story.

nanna-up-north 07-03-2012 05:57 AM

Congrats on such a great gift. I bought my first Viking in 1976 and it looks a lot like yours. Mine didn't have a cabinet but I've used it over the years and still have it. I taught my daughter how to sew on it and my granddaughter. I have a newer one now but still use the '76 now and then. Enjoy it.... it will give you some beautiful sewing and quilting.

Caswews 07-03-2012 06:02 AM

what a wonderful gift to you ..Enjoy!! maybe take him out to lunch a few times to thank him, I would even make him a quilt too ..

Lady Jane 07-03-2012 06:15 AM

How lucky for you!

fmhall2 07-03-2012 07:21 AM

Beautiful machine and cabinet. You are very fortunate. Love it. I love the old Vikings and you will, too.

Grace MooreLinker 07-03-2012 07:41 AM

What a sad story for this gentleman ,but how nice that he gave it to you, looks like a beauty. The cabinet is a treasure in it's self.
by the way is that bottle on the floor a lost medication?(: thanks for sharing.

DaylilyDawn 07-03-2012 07:42 AM

That machine looks like my Viking I have. One of my kids lost one of the cams. Mine is in a cabinet very much like that one except I have drawers on both sides. It is also a double leaf extension table and free arm.

barbo117 07-03-2012 07:59 AM

I have this same machine, oh what a work horse it is. Compared to the machines of today, this machine is built like a mack truck. I have had mine, bought used, for 30 years, it is in a suitcase not a beautiful cabinet like yours though. You will truly love sewing on it. What a lovely thing for this gentleman to do to gift it to you. Congratulations!

wordpaintervs 07-03-2012 08:36 AM

God bless you and the man who gave you that. It sure is great

I want an older Elna so badly. I can't believe you parted with your mom's. I found a green one but the store where it is doesn't have a price tag for it and the gal hasn't gotten around to pricing it yet. I'm going nuts waiting on her. I'm afraid someone will swoop in and buy it out from under me. Oh well, there are always others. That was nice of you to let yours go to a loving home.

champagnebubbles 07-03-2012 12:21 PM

Oh he must think a lot of you.

LadyElisabeth 07-03-2012 12:41 PM
