Yesterday my hubby and I ventured out to Lancaster. My mission was to get fabric for my first OBW, however I did not find anything that said buy me and when I did find something I liked the repeat was not large enough. Lancaster was crowded but surprisingly the fabric shops were not crowded. I bought some unusual batiks (pictures 5-6). I have no clue what I am going to do with them.
Thanks for looking!

Those are the prettiest souveniers I've seen!!

alikat110 07-03-2011 07:47 AM

Nice!!! Love most of those...particularly those in the first picture

crafty_linda_b 07-03-2011 07:47 AM

Opal I don't know if you have been reading all the posts lately about Batiks. A lot of the gals have said they bleed really bad. Make sure you wash and wash them over again until the water runs clear before using them in a quilt.
You got a nice assortment of fabrics.

Where did you go? I love the sewing theme fabrics in picture number 4. I have the one with the pins on it, but i love the two at the top.

Answers to questions:

Lancaster is located in PA, approximately 1.5 hours from Annapolis MD.

The fabrics were purchased at Zooks, The Old Country Store, Bitty Kinna's, and Dutchland Quilt Patch.

The sewing fabrics were purchased at The Old Country Store. It was sold as a fat pack (containing 8 fat quarters). It is a collection from The Henley Studio, Makower UK. Unfortunately it is not on the website, but you could probably call the store (they had plenty there).

The tree fabric was purchased at Zooks and I found it in the clearance bin. It is called Centenary Collection by Yoko Saito & Lechien (never heard of the mfg).

I love your fabrics, all of them. Hey you guys, next time any of you are venturing in the direction of Hayloft Fabrics, Goods, etc., PM me. I live about 20 minutes from those places. Hayloft Fabrics is my LQS, and I am there usually once a week. And I am about 30 minutes or so from Paradise, Bird in Hand, and Intercourse. Love shopping there too. I would love to meet up with you.

I'm working on a quilt using batiks (never really worked with them before) and the LQS said to make sure I wash them for the bleed but also to get any excess residue out from the stamping. I've also noticed with the tight weave, I need to make sure I have a nice, sharp needle or it tends to "pull" a little during stitching (maybe pull is not the right word but hopefully you know what I mean).

Have fun with your new stash !!

Sewfine 07-04-2011 04:26 AM
