Looking for Ideas

HI Everyone,

I some how became the Swap Swami person of our local Quilt Guild. Now I need to come up with simple swaps. I have a few but looking for more.

this is what I have so far.

1. mug rug

2. pin cushion

What else can I do?

Thank you for the help!!

Fat quarters, siggie blocks, needle case

alleyoop1 05-21-2013 04:55 AM

How about fabric coasters? I made a lot of them out of a Thanksgiving print and use them every year. They are super easy. I found this pattern on line: http://allsorts.typepad.com/allsorts...ross_coas.html

lynnie 05-21-2013 05:08 AM

Ugly fabric swap is always fun; Christmas ornament (handmade); Secret Santa

thimblebug6000 05-21-2013 06:05 AM

If you take your own mug to the meetings, you could make lug-a-mug bags to swap. Basically it's just a little quilted draw string bag with a base, it was a free pattern years ago, not sure if there's one out there on the web now or not. This is not the pattern I used but I see they have given permission for it to be used in a guild setting. http://limestonequiltersguild.files....ept2011bom.pdf

How about tissue covers. I am making bread cloths at the moment. They are cross stitched but the baskets can be filled with little quilting items.

UFOs that are never going to make it ... could take on a new life in a new home!

Our guild has done a "sweet treat" trade. These are (for us, anyway) a small bundle of 4 fat sixteenths = fat 1/16th = a piece of fabric cut 11" x 9". We tie these with a sweet ribbon both ways across the middle. They are folded into 2.5" x 3" little packages

Potato bags for the microwave are popular in my area.

Mkotch 05-22-2013 03:45 AM

Charm squares, layer cakes (10"), strips

Our guild does an "ugly-pretty" challenge each year. Each person brings in a fat quarter she thinks is ugly and another she thinks is pretty. We put them in separate bags and then draw. Each person makes something no more than 12" square (and it can be any shape) for a big reveal in a few months. Really fun!

MimiBug123 05-22-2013 04:09 AM

Specific colors. For example, red fat quarters, purple half yards, green jelly roll strips, etc.

dd 05-22-2013 04:11 AM

We are doing a gallon bag of scraps. The other thing I was thinking is get a lot of the same fabric on sale, we have a small group, and give each person a fat 1/4 of that same fabric. They have to use this fabric in a project. Projects can then be blind swapped or just kept by that person. They may already have something they plan to make for someone else or themselves but can always use it for a gift later. I plan to let them keep the project and do with it what they want. Could get a fat 1/4 back in exchange to be used for a later guild project.

Half square triangles.
You can do so many designs with them. Then you could do a show and tell.

MargeD 05-22-2013 09:05 AM

The quilt guild I used to belong to had 6" fabric square swaps, with a theme - Christmas, homespun, etc. I made a beautiful patchwork Christmas tree skirt from one fabric swap - just something to think about.

Skyangel 05-22-2013 09:40 AM

I did a 6 1/2" ABC block swap. You signed up for a specific letter(s) and found a fabric to represent that letter (for instance apples for A, ballons or butterflies for B, ect. You cut 26 6 1/2" squares of your fabric (1 yard does it) and submit them to the swap hostess. The hostess sorted everyone's squares and made sets of 26 squares A-Z. You received back a set for every letter you had. One time it was so large there were 4 groups and I took a letter in each for 4 different sets. Then everyone shared the quilts they made from the sets. These are fun for kids.

What about a round robin? Or mini quilt/doll quilt, charm squares by themes, fabric post cards...

I've participated in themed block swaps that are so much fun. 12.5" blocks of...... trees or .. chickens...cats... dogs...leaves... or specific patterns like friendship stars or Ohio stars. Also swaps of color themed strips.

Sewbeeit2 05-23-2013 10:35 AM

My quilting group did table runners....small and simple....
also thought about plastic bag holders.

carolynjo 05-23-2013 11:20 AM

A bah-humbug bag (a small bag with a zipper in front in which you can carry small hand tools.

Gerbie 05-23-2013 08:43 PM

How about quick table runners, mason jar pin cushions, tortilla warmers, hot/cold neck warmers, aprons. There are so manmy things you could make and swap.
