Did you lengthen your stitch ? I have found that a too short stitch will look kind of 'gathered' sometimes. But it also seemed to even out after a wash. Pretty quilt and lucky grandson.

Remember you are sewing on the bias with those diagonal lines so that "rippling" is normal.....don't be so hard on yourself, you did a great job with it!

I agree with the bias comment. There's a little more pull, but its normal and I think adds to the overall look of the quilt. You could experiment with a slightly longer stitch or easing up on the presser foot pressure, but do this on your NEXT one! You want all the quilting to be consistent. You are doing a wonderful job!!!

I think you are doing a great job. All your worries will go down the drain with the first wash. I think you and your grandson will be very pleased with the results of your labor. Lovely quilt.

Agree with all comments-beautiful quilt and try not to be a perfectionist in your quilts as it will take away from the joy of it!! Ask me how I know this!!

I looks fine from the front. Can you take a photo of the back and post it?? I prefer straight stitching and I think what you are doing is fine. Beginners should stick first with getting comfortable with a walking foot before jumping into FMQ. A great book I would recommend is by Harriet Hargrave: Heirloom Machine Quilting Book. I have the first edition but I would get the most recent edition. If there is a quilt store somewhat close, pop in there and start talking and make some local connections. Great place to find where quilter's meet.

Looks fabulous! Are you sewing in one direction only? Sometimes, this will pull things. Sew one row one way, then reverse for the row next to it. Hope this makes sense.

It looks wonderful to me. The rows are evenly spaced and no one section looks thicker than the rest. Relax. We are always our own worst critics. You have done a great job.
