OK...I need your opinions. I'm "thinking" (oh, oh.....that always mean trouble...LOL) of looking for an older Bernina (can't afford anything too new right now) and I'd like to know what model do you think I should look for and what would be a fair price for said model. I want a basic machine. No embroidery options (I already have an embroidery/sewing machine). Just a nice machine that has some decorative stitches but nothing "over-loaded", if you know what I mean.

do you have a Bernina dealer close by to you. If so, talk to them. They may have some at reasonable prices.
Numbers change so much it is difficult to advise. However, 1530 (I believe) was agood machine and many who traded up wish they had kept the older one.

I have a 1031. You cannot have mine, go find your own! LOL. It is a work horse. I use it daily and have for about 18 years.

I have an 801 which I love. It is entirely mechanical, basic stitches and runs like a top. I found it on eBay and got lucky.

Cheers, K

I've got an 801 too. I got it when I was 16 and will never let it go.

If you can find a 930 it is a fine all mechanical machine. You should be able to get it for less than the older electronic ones. It does have a number of decorative stitches and makes beautiful buttonholes. It was once a top of the line machine.

the older 830 Bernina is a gem also. dependable, mechanical.
I see they are now labeling new ones 830. confusing. it has zig-zag, etc. I think they still sell for $500 though. I have a 1090 about 12 yrs old. love it. if you really want a basic machine, get a vintage Singer 401. zig-zag, lots of stitches, should be able to get it for under $200. advertise on Craigslist, someone may have one sitting in the bedroom.

I have a 1260 that I would not give up for any amount of money. It's a workhorse.
