I have made her designs .. they are not for the faint of quilting heart !! Some of her patterns do NOT include the papers . I know they were working to include papers in the most recent printings , but do be careful if buying on line or in person that the papers are inculded. THe first one I did was VERY problematic ... the instructions called for the desings to be traced onto your paper... there is a copyright printed on each page .. so copying was not ... well easy. Plus many of the designs were on paper so large I hade to use paper typically used for architectural prints. It ended up costing me an additional $30.00 . The designer has limited English abilites ... and who ever translates .. is not a quilter/sewer.. there were terms in the instructions that had no relevance to the pattern.
I know they are were working to improve but if you happen to purchase a pattern that was printed prior to the improvements ... it can be a struggle.
There were some yardage requirements I did not find clear enough for my purposes.. One yardage requirement on the pattern just said "Lots" ... what the heck does that mean... !
Spending the $$$ for the patterns I had the expectation the sewing /quilting would be challenging ... not getting through the pattern itself.
Her designs are beautful !

Thanks for all the wonderful information. I made my daughter a quilt a few years ago that was all paper pieced and it turned out great. The pattern did have some problems that caused me a lot of frustrations. These patterns look a bit more then my skill level can handle. Thanks for the heads up on possible problems. I think I'm going to look for something a little easier. I think New York Beauty would be a good starting point.

I have a geese circling paper pieced block I found online free ---- that will be challenging enough. Good luck and by the way to the designer ---beautiful work!

Ivory Spring recently had a free pattern on her site made by Quilting Treasures. It was called Sausalito and has some similarities to your 2 quilts but looks a lot easier. You could check it out or get some ideas and design your own.

There is an author...Karen K. Stone that does quilts that have this look. She does beautiful work. Those quilts you are looking at are beautiful.
Paper piecing takes a lot of time...Ask me how I know. But, it is really something to be proud of when you are done!

Have you thought about designing your own in EQ if you have it? Then print out the paper piecing instructions.

Minnisewta 06-24-2012 05:04 PM

I don't have EQ. I guess I don't really know what it is so I assume I don't have it. I think I will do a few New York Beauties and add more stuff and see what happens. I have done paper piecing and like it but don't want to get myself in to deep that I can't get out. Thanks to everyone that has given me ideas and web sites.

I am working on one now based on a Judy Niemeyer. I am changing the layout to suit myself. It is paper pieced and not hard if you can PP. I bought the pattern and am using fabrics from my stash. This is what it looks like so far.
