Ms. Watts has an entire book out on SW styled quilts. Including Squash Blossom. Awesome quilts that will make you want to invest in beautiful earth tone fabrics. I am working on a Medallion quilt that will someday grace the nicest bed in my house. I wandered into a quilt shop in Santa Fe while on vacation a couple of years ago and found even more of her patterns that I had never seen before. Look her up. It will be worth your while.

A lot of Southwestern patterns have more acute angles than HSTs. It would be a good idea to make a sample block first to see how you handle it or even alter it. You can always use this sample later for the front of a tote bag. It is also a great way to audition the southwestern color palette.
