I make the center block scrappy, using 2 1/2 inch squares. The one I'm working on now is a 36 patch block. Then I do the points like Jan said and they don't have to come to the edge. It makes a really attractive block!

Thank you all. I knew I could count on this Board to help me out.

Thanks, Jan, for posting that!

Thanks Jan. I am looking forward to try your star pattern. You are such a gifted and generous piecer/quilter. I am as always at awe.

I gave a class on Stack 'n' Whack last year, and taught the students to cut the background triangles a little larger. That way there was a little extra around the outside. Worked very well.

Hi Jan ~
Referring to post #4 ~ If someone wanted to end up with an 8" finished block what would the math be for cutting the pieces? As I've said so many other times, and its been said in this thread, Jan you are so generous with your knowledge it is so appreciated by all of us! (((Hugs))) |

(((Hugs))) Okay, just pondering the diagram you shared Jan and realize "I think" that I would need to cut the squares 3.5" with the blocks then finishing 8.5". What would I cut the star points at that I would snowball onto the 3.5" squares? |
