which looks better, please
2 Attachment(s)
I just love my EQ! I'm able to test out blocks and layouts. Before Valentine's day, I made the scrappy hearts center of this representing my 4 DGKs. I never finished it as it was too large for a wallhanging for my space. Since I've moved, I got out all of my UFOs trying to decide what to do with them. I decided to donate this scrappy to my charity quilting group for them to make it into a baby quilt. Well, they decided just to give me the fabric for additional borders for me to work on it at home :) I couldn't decide to use uneven borders to make a 41x47 sized quilt or with even borders to make it 42x42. Which do you like better?

I think if it is planned to be a baby quilt I would go with the 42 x 42. Either way looks just as good to me. I just think the size is better that way.
I prefer lap quilts square but other quilts rectangular. Go with what you like best because both designs look good.
I like rectangles better
Even. But I'm a fan of symmetry.
For a baby quilt, I would prefer the square (unless it's meant for a crib). A square quilt has the option of being used diagonally, as well as straight.
I like the first option, the 42" square.
I'd use the square as little one when they are put down on the floor on the quilt do wiggle around quite a bit.
I prefer to make baby quilts crib size. Baby will be able to use it much longer, 45 x 60". Very pretty top.
Beautiful quilt. I love the square size.
I slightly prefer the overall square one for this particular quilt, but if I were receiving it as a mom with a baby, I would want it crib size to grow with baby and to cover up mommy and baby when snuggling in a rocker. But either way they look good, honestly.
I prefer the first one. I just the over all scale of the components better.
I like the rectangles. But it's lovely, regardless!
I'm for even. I like the symmetry, and if they decide to use it as a wallhanging (they might, many would!) square will work better.
But both look lovely, so go with your gut... Alison |
Nicely done

As usual, the replies to these questions are all over. I prefer the rectangle, too. I think it can be used longer.

I like the even borders best. Beautiful quilt!

I've made quilts with uneven sides but if given the choice I vote for the even quilt this time, but it's your quilt and you have the last say! how's that for being political correct!
I like the 41 x 47, but both are beautiful! Great job!
Longer is better, the child will grow.
You can't miss either way.
Gorgeous work! I like the 42" square. Like another member said, I'm a lover of symmetry.
I like the square one. The rectangular layout looks like it's crowding the center a bit.
Its your quilt...do what pleases you...Very pretty...
I'd go with the 42". That gives you a bit of leeway in case the quilting and/or washing it makes it shrink a bit.

Nicely Done

So, what have you decided since we were unanimous in our votes? Lol
the quilt is so pretty, I'd choose the square.
I like crib quilts rectangular, lap quilts square and baby quilts whichever feels right at the time

thanks, all, for your choices and words of wisdom. i decided on the square. at the time of the decision, that was the prevailing choice. i like it. the light borders are more of a lavender color. i'm hoping the other ladies will let me sandwich and machine quilt it, finishing with a machine binding. they usually birth and tie the charity quilts.

Even borders to my liking.
I like the 42x42
I like rectangles better also, and bet you get half of each suggestion.
Nicely done.
Top one-square in a square-
I like the first one! Good luck in picking which one to go with........Happy quilting :)

I'd go for the longer and as the baby's feet grow longer it will still be a huggie blanket still. For now it will fit for the whole crib maybe and longer legs down the road. Hope that made sense.
