You will love it! Let me know when you receive it!

Ginakra 07-18-2010 01:12 PM

I need a table that isn't very high, because I'm petite. I read this one is 28 3/4" tall, but the tray the sewing machine is on goes down 6"? Could I ask a favor and ask if the tray will actually measure 22 3/4" from the floor up? If so, I might buy one. I have to have a sewing table low for ergonomics.

Thanks in advance!

oneygirl 07-18-2010 02:25 PM

I am 5 feet tall and it is a very comfortable fit to sew with

BellaBoo 07-18-2010 02:52 PM

I really like this table, I think I need one! I live in AR so I think the Sam's Club and WalMarts here get some of the specialty items that there is not much inventory of to go to all the stores. I see a lot of one time buys at Sam's Club that my friends say the ones in their area don't have. Anything online at Walmart can be shipped to the closest Walmart so you can pick it up and return it right then if it isn't what you thought.

fabric-holic 07-18-2010 03:04 PM

I'm interested too.
Does anyone know how much it weighs?
I'll have to carry it to my car and into my apartment alone.
Thanks

BellaBoo 07-18-2010 03:12 PM

There will be someone to place it in your car. Have blanket to put on the ground when you get home, put the package on the blanket and drag it in your door. I use the blanket moving way to move anything heavy. I moved our entrainment center from one wall to the next and DH could not believe I did it by myself. A long strong broom handle raised it just enough to put the blanket under each end.

oneygirl 07-18-2010 03:41 PM

41 pounds

That is a clever way to move something!
But I have to go up 2 flights of stairs alone with it so it won't work.
Somebody just posted that it weighs 42 lbs or something. I might be able to get it up the stairs by taking it out of the box to give me a better grip on it and pulling it slowly up the stairs behind me.
thanks

Wow!! That table looks great!! I'm trying to rearrange a room to use as a sewing room and this would be perfect since I wouldn't be able to have it up all the time. Thanks for the info!! How is it when you are sewing?

fabric-holic 07-22-2010 04:17 PM

Hey....mine came today after all !!
I was down at the apartment office and they just called me.
I'll get it after work tomorrow.

I just got my machine out of the box and I love it!
Thanks for the suggestion!
(I know y'all won't notice my clutter behind it on the couch or the strips of painters tape on the folding door....lol)

oneygirl 07-24-2010 06:08 AM

You will love the table! Enjoy!

costumegirl 07-24-2010 08:01 AM

Good to hear that you are liking the table!!!
I was so excited about this table and I showed it to DH. He just couldn't fathom that an insert for a keyboard that only weighe 1 - 2 pounds would hold a heavy machine - said it wouldn't last long and would probably bend from the weight and vibrations and pull out of the table.

LOL!!I don't really care that he doesn't think it will work - I trust the quilters here who are 'more experienced' than he is. I will probably get one in Sept (without his knowledge) and just set it up ;)

oneygirl 07-24-2010 08:16 AM

Remember Harriet Hargrave recommended this table in her new book "Quilter's Academy 2" Her daughter has one set up in her sewing room!
I love mine! Let your hustband know that there is no vibration with this table and the shelf is supoorted by stainless steel brackets that adjust to 6 levels!

costumegirl 07-24-2010 08:20 AM

LOL!! I did mention it but he does not know the who's who in quilting. I will just quietly set myself up and he probably won't notice until after a few months have passed.

katsewnsew 07-24-2010 08:30 AM

Got mine set up and put the Juki on it. Did some piecing yesterday, but I have to say that I did have a bit of vibration. DH is going to do something else to the table to make the keyboard holder more sturdier. Don't ask me what, but I have to say that I got a bit nervous piecing with the Juki. Now I don't know how much your machines weigh, but I do have the older Juki and it is a heavy one! I feel that I might be a bit nervous free motion quilting on it, at least until DH re-inforces it more. I think I am going to write to Harriet Hargrave and ask her about what machine she has on her table and the weight. Other than that, I have a very old Singer that doesn't weigh as much as the Juki or Sapphire. I might just put that on the machine. I do love the table! Perfect size!!! And I would buy it again just use it on a lighter weight machine. k

oneygirl 07-24-2010 08:57 AM

I have my Bernina Activa on the table. I just use the table for piecing, sewing blocks and making items like potholders, table runners, etc. I did use my walking foot with my machine and didn't have any issues.
I am not sure how much your Juki weighs or what it looks like. You can probably go online to www.harriethargrave.com and contact her directly. I am happy with her recommendation.
If she responds to you let me know what she says!

katsewnsew 07-29-2010 12:38 PM

I have been using the table all this week with no major issues. I did email Hargrave a week ago, no response. Anyways, table seems to be working alright. I did some free motion quilting, piecing and regular sewing and no problems. It looks great!

oneygirl 07-29-2010 02:21 PM

Oh I am so happy! I knew that it was a good table! I love to sew with my Bernina on it. No vibrations and it is very sturdy!

Joyce 07-29-2010 03:24 PM

If any one is a Sam's Club member, you can get it for $106.36 with free shipping. Looks like a nice table.
I have a Janome Quilter's machine that sure would look good on that table, alas, I have no more room.
Let me think...Maybe I could move...I know, I could stack...no, that wouldn't work either. DagNabIt!!!

oneygirl 07-29-2010 03:35 PM

:) :) :) :) :) LOL

oneygirl 07-29-2010 03:36 PM

It looks awesome!

ClairVoyantQuilter 07-29-2010 03:48 PM

Does anyone have the measurements of the keyboard shelf? I need something like this for my serger.

oneygirl 07-29-2010 04:01 PM

I wouldn't recommend this for a serger. You may be better off with the serger cart from Nancy's Notions

http://www.nancysnotions.com/product...rrivals&page=1

I own this cart and it is very portable, has wheels and has room for all of your serger accessories. It costs $195

ClairVoyantQuilter 07-29-2010 04:03 PM

Thank you . . .will look into it :)

natalieg 07-29-2010 04:14 PM

Well, that answered my question! DH is going to makee me a cutting table out of the solid door he has I think. But, he is interested in getting me a small portable table since I put my cart upstairs. I have nowhere to sew in the sewing room! We were debating between this one and the Arrow 98601. We were thinking the Safco would be more sturdy and that was confirmed here and in PM's!
Will order this weekend when I have more time!

On these computer tables do you think the shelf is strong enough for a sewing machine?

About 20 years ago I used to sew on a card table. After some time, my sewing machine had problems so I took it in to be looked at. The repairman asked, "What type of table or surface do you sew on?" I told him a card table. He asked me to never do that again as a handful of screws and other parts had been vibrated loose and were sitting on the bottom of the machine case.

Fast forward to now and this Safco table. I was lucky enough to get one at a thrift store for only $15.00. My Bernina 1090 fits nicely on it, but if I go too fast it does vibrate a tiny bit. Knowing that Harriet Hargrave uses Bernina's and suggested this table, I may email her and ask if she experiences any vibration and/or how to combat that. It does help to have a piece of that rubbery shelf liner under your sewing machine.

Otherwise, I absolutely LOVE being able to use my machine flatbed style and still be able to access the free arm if need be. It's SO nice that the drop down shelf is adjustable, I think at 5 different levels. Perfect for me!

I believe the shelf is supported well enough by adequate hardware or I wouldn't dare put my Bernina on it.

Is your Safco table set up on a carpet, per chance? Mine is, and does vibrate slightly at high speeds. I'm wondering if it's the carpet that might be causing the vibration?

Thanks,

Karla
