Never too old to learn something new, I guess.

A slightly different definition (with pictures). |
Always learning something new from the quilters on this board! I've always loved the muted, soft look of "old-fashioned" quilts, but didn't know there was a name for the fabrics used in them.

I interpret low volume as meaning that there is more background to the fabric than print design. So, low volume fabrics can have dark colors in them but they still look "muted" as a whole. Making this quilt here is where I learned what low volume fabrics are. Look at the background fabrics I used.

Well, learn something new every day!! I used to think of these as pale colors.

I think it is my quilt Donna has fallen in love with (posted on Stashbusters). I bought some new fabrics but also was able to use a lot of my older stash.

Low volume quilting is all the rage in modern quilting blogs right now. There are some beauties out there that are so muted in color they almost look white. One is on my list of to do's.
Here is a Flickr low volume group to browse through. Here is a postage stamp one that I will be using for my LV inspiration. |
I think I have become over-saturated with bright colors and wild prints. I love the pastel, muted all-over quilts. Just old things coming round again, like what goes around, comes around. I think you can find low volume fabrics at any quilt store, if I am understand this thread correctly. It's just a matter of how you put colors or non colors together. Usually we put light, med, dark colors and small, medium, and large fabric patterns into our quilts. Low volume is just all muted together and nothing competing for all the attention. imho...

AngelinaMaria, that is a beautiful quilt! It is a great example of the things I read about low volume quilting yesterday, and it's so interesting to see the fabrics close-up. I'm really excited about this concept.
