am going 2 try 1 quilt on sewing machine.i do not have a walking foot. can i use another foot?

You don't need the walking foot to piece the quilt you can use your basic foot. The walking foot helps with quilting the top and bottom to give you a better feed through the machine.

Hi, If you are stitching in the ditch lengthen you stitch and check you tension. If you have a darning foot and want to free motion quilt be sure to reduce the pressure on the foot. Hope this helps.. I did not have a walking foot for a long time. It does help whenquilting in the ditch. Hope this helps.

Yes, when you quilt your quilt you need the wf or fm foot.

When you say reduce the pressure on the foot do you mean lower the feed dogs? |
You can make the pieced top with a regular foot :-D
|
I always use my regular foot because I do not have a WF. It is a little harder but it works.

I can't keep it in the ditch lol so I found I prefer to do my stitching 1/8 or 1/4" from the ditch. I also found out I really like the look and it's at least straight.

Use a darning foot or free motion quilting foot and lower the feed dogs to try free motion quilting. You may need some rubber gloves to provide friction to move your quilt around. Try to keep your speed steady and practice on a scrap quilt sandwich until you are confident.
