I don't know... I DO have a special stitch on my Janome (Memory Craft 4800 Quilters Edition) where you use monofilament on the top and thread in the bobbin and it looks like it skips a stitch and looks JUST LIKE hand quilting.
I never use it. lol See, I'm afraid of the long lasting effects of monofilament thread. Will it last over time. Also, it takes a LLLLOOOONNNNNNGGGG time for the stitching. Creeps along. That's all I know about what you are asking. |
I saw a Singer on HSN yesterday that has a stitch that looks like hand quilting. I was tempted to buy just to get that stitch, but I was good and didn't buy it.

(Now, lucky for me, I like my machine and still use it dailly .It's my ONLY machine. So, for me it worked out. IT's a Janome 4800 Quilters Edition.) Mine, it's very slow to do this stitch. It has to go forward, then backwards, it is almost double the work in sewing the stitch. Also, I'm not a fan of monofilament , not knowing over time what it will do. 20+ years down the road, will it begin to break apart, etc? |
my Bernina 180 has a hand quilt stitch. uses clear thread (only one) on top and colored on bottom. Very very nice...have used it many times
|
I have the Sashiko machine and mainly use it for smaller projects but I really do like the stitch on it.
|
I have a Viking Rose that has a handquilted stitch. You us a white or color in the bobbin and clear on top. I have only use it on small projects so far , but it does look good.
|
Have any of you used the "2 hole needle" for this? Just bought one but haven't tried it yet. Would like to know. Sounds like it would work also.
|
I have a Sashiko - it's by Baby Lok and is the perfect partner for my Baby Lok Symphony - Have hand quilted anything since I got it. I love the look it produces.
|
My Pfaff has a stitch that looks like hand quilted. Uses invisible thread.
|
I think the Bernina 440 has a hand-look quilting stitch built in. But I use the technique described by other posters on my 430 and it looks pretty good. It is slower, so I only use it in limited areas.
|
My Pfaff also does a "quilting stitch" You use invisible thread in the bobbin, and regular thread on top. On my pfaff I can program stitches and for the quilting stitch you program one regular stitch (a little longer than you use for piecing) followed by five or six tiny stitches. You finish the programming with a repeat function. With the right tension settings you get a regular stitch with your top thread, then the five tiny stitches that bring the invisible bottom thread to the top, regular stitch, five tiny invisible stitches, etc.
The result looks as if you have spaces between your regular stitching but in reality there are five tiny stitches in between each regular stitch that you can't see. The effect gives it the appearance of hand quilting. |
There is a baby lock machine that does it , but cost a lot .also New home memory craft machines or any machine that has saddle stitch will do the same thing with invisible thread in the bobbin I tried it its ok
|
Sorry for the double post!.

Question please....Okay, I put invisible thread on the top and desired colored thread on the bottom. Now, do I stitch with the reverse side of the quilt up OR do I stitch as I normally would with right-side up? I may have missed this answer so please humor me if I have. Sure want to try this today.

My Janome can do this. The one I had before this one did too. You do have to use the clear in the bobbin and regular on top. I've never heard of the 2 threads one place and one in the other.

The high end Pfaffs had a stitch that could look pretty much like hand quilting. I have one, but never used the stitch.
|
my machine, a Husqvarna, has that special stitch. I tried it once and never again. I wished I hadn't started it at all. yes, on the top it could be said to look like a hand stitch. but not on the back. And, it took forever to stitch. I think it would've been faster by hand--lol--I finally thought that this is by machine anyway and not hand, so does it really matter? Nah... just mho
|
I was told by my Bernina dealer that invisable thread (good quality) on top and whatever color in bobbin would look like hand quilting. It also shows that in the quilting book that came with my machine. Good Luck

This has been an interesting post.....think I might have to give this a try!! Thanks everyone!

I have this machine and I have used the hand stitching. Looks pretty good, especially if you turn up the stitch length so it is spaced out a little

LOL If you guys saw my hand stitching you would know why that is the last thing I would ever want my machine to make something look like.

Sounds like something worth trying. Thanks!!!!

My Brother SE270D and Futura CE150 both have a stitch that resembles hand stitching.

the New Home 8000 ( Janome - about 15 - 20 years old) has a stitch they call hand quilting. it goes three forward, then one backward, then three forward, then one backward, etc. when you use fine thread, the single layer of thread sort of disappears and all you notice is the stitch that has the triple layer. not really hand stitching but not bad. it's much too regular to look like anything but machine stitching.
