That's what I do and that's the way I was taught to do it. However, I did take one machine quilting class where the teacher said that if you have pin basted well (where when you put your fist down on the quilt and you can hit pins all around) that you should be able to start wherever you wanted. Me, I still try to start in the middle.

Be sure and pin it also or you'll be pic'in out puckers. You can usually smoothe them out but for the first one I'd be sure and pin too

That's what I do!!

WHY NOT USE THE SPRAY MAYBE YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO USE THE SPRAY I HAVE BEEN QUILTING FOR YEARS AND ALL I DO USE IS THE SPRAY, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SPRAY IF YOU KNOW HOW TO USE IT LIKE WHERE TO START, THE BACK OF MY QUILTS ALL COME OUT WITH NO PUCKERS, I CANT TELL YOU WHEN THE LAST TIME I USE PINS. MOST OF MY QUILTS ARE QUEEN OR BIGGER.

yes to start in the middle and work out. How do you get rid of the 505 you put onto the quilt and you spray the fabric NOT the batting when using these sprays. I prefer the Sulky KK2000 it goes awy in a week on its own or with dry heat.

When I hand quilted a 6 block sampler I started with the middle sashing quilting outward then did each block individually. Haven't tried machine quilting yet, just getting ready to do a twin size on my regular sewing machine.

Yes you always start in the middle and work your way out. It helps if you have an idea of what you want to do. Are you going to stitch in the ditch( sew in the seam) or are you going to sew different lines? Have an idea before you sew. Good luck let me know I'd like to hear or see the results. Ah Ha! Now I know why I get wrinkles. Thanks!! |
