Have a look at the Leah Day tutorial on youtube. She does a really good job of explaining how to attach the binding by machine. I've only done it once but I was quite pleased how it turned out. Up till trying her way I was a committed hand sewer for bindings. I think I still prefer hand sewing for something special but when you're in a hurry....

My very fist quilt I started hand stitching. Sat around for 8 months half done. My daughter asked if I was ever going to finish her quilt. I asked her she cared if I tried doing it with machine. She said she could care less how I did it....
The rest is history. I will NEVER do it by hand again. If I ever enter a show, I will pay someone else to do my binding. :D |

When I machine stitch the binding to the front I use a medium wide zigzag with matching thread. I find this helps to disguise the little bobbles you mentioned. I have also used the decorative stitches on my machine with contrasting thread and have been pleased with the results.

Well, I guess until I figure out a way to achieve perfect stitching on the back of the quilt, I will stick to hand binding. I make quilts for customers and I want the binding as perfect as possible. I really don't mind doing it by hand. It's very relaxing for me. I want to get through the whole Bible so, when I bind, I put on my Bible cd's and get two things accomplished at once! :) I sure appreciate everyone's comments. I learn so much from this board!
