I bet we have confused you about which machine to buy, we all have our favorites...variety is the spice of life.

I use a Brother project runway machine. It is light, versatile, and has never pulled the fabric down in the dogs when starting on the edge. I don't know if there are versions that are sewing only, but mine also does the 4x4 embr if you want to use that. Get to the dealers (any of them) and try them out, including picking them up.

hey, I have this machine as well! Don't take it to classes because I have the Janome, but they feet are interchangeable between this machine and the Janome as well!

I have the Elna 6003...my walking foot [came with the machine] does not fit on the Janome Gem2. We must have different models.

I can not start a project on the J Gem2 and expect to have a great outcome with the Elna. The 1/4" foot/needle position is not compatible. Anyway, that is my experience.

So I have to make the decision: will the class be for "technique" (J G2) or a time invested project (the Elna).

I have the Janome Gem Platinum. My 1/4" foot from my Elna fits it fine! As does the walking foot!

Best class machine investment I made was a Janome 3160 DC.
It has the automatic thread cutter for piecing and I wouldn't be without it. The Jems do not have auto thread cutter. Some of the Jems do not have the needle up needle down. The 3160 stitches at 820 stitches per minute where the Jems stitch at 650. Both the 3160 and Jem Platinum have 60 stitches built in, the Jem Gold has 12.The 3160 has 7MM zig zag, the Jems are 5MM. The Jems weigh 12 lbs.,the 3160 is 12.5 lbs.The number one reason I purchased the Janome 3160 was strictly the automatic thread cutter. I got so used to it in piecing on my Janome 6600 which is way to heavy to lug around at 24 lbs.

I have the 3160, couldn't remember the weight, I have a Pfaff Creative Vision BUT I take the 3160 to all the quilting classes. :thumbup:

Janome...I take my little one all over the place....I have one of the roller craft totes from Jo Anns....holds all my stuff....machine and all the stuff that goes with it and then some...love it....my 9 year old granddaughter sews on it too when I go to visit. Very user frendily.
