If you could only read only one quilting magazine which would it be?

craftybear 05-31-2010 04:58 PM

oh my, that is a hard one

I guess I like Quick Quilts as small projects

LindaM 05-31-2010 04:59 PM

Quilter's Newsletter - it's the only one I've subscribed to, and have not been disappointed in any edition in more than 15 years :)

sharon b 05-31-2010 05:07 PM

McCalls Quick Quilts

CarrieAnne 05-31-2010 05:09 PM

Gosh, I love so many. There used to be one called Traditional QUilting, that was my favorite, but they dontmake it anymore. I always loveQuilters Newsletter, too, and Quilters Home is good.....guess I couldnt pick one!

Pamela Artman 05-31-2010 05:12 PM

That's like trying to pick my favorite quilt pattern or quilt book! Nearly impossible! It seems that Quilters Newsletter has a lot of good articles (but most of the quilts are too "artsy" for my taste.) I like Fons and Porter a lot too. But I agree, I used to LOVE Traditional Quilting and Quiltworks and MIniture quilts, but they all don't exist anymore. :(

Maride 05-31-2010 05:23 PM

I don't subscribe to any right now. I found myself receiving magazines loaded with patterns and making none of them. I like to read some of the articles. The only one I read cover to cover was Quilter's Home and is not worth it anymore. I read that Mark Lipinski is coming out with another magazine soon.

debbieumphress 05-31-2010 05:27 PM

OMG. I have so many. I subscribe to Quilter's home, Fons and Porter, Mccalls, Quiltmaker, and a few others. I love to read Quilter's HOme when Mark Lipinski did the editing. Now he moved on to Fabric Trends. The Quilter's home is still trying to keep his style alive. I love to read more about what is going on and not just get patterns. Of course I read all of my magazines covre to cover and some several times over. Love my quilting magazines.

debbieumphress 05-31-2010 05:29 PM

BTW Maride, go to Mark's site and his blog. He is actually doing around 4 new magazines so it will be interesting to see what he changes. I sdtill keep up with him on his Marklipinski.com. Love the man. He is looking for a kidney donar right now. He found out two months ago he has to have a transplant immediately. SO sad. Youc an see all this on his blog.
I am a pickle posse member too. Talk about hooked on Mark. Do what you feel, cupcakes. LOL

CarrieAnne 05-31-2010 05:34 PM

Debbie, I miss him too, keep forgeting to check his blog...I thought he was coming back to Quilters Home, but didnt see anything in the new issue...Cupcake!
Miss seeing his dogs, lol!

cjomomma 05-31-2010 06:14 PM

I bought a bunch of quilting magazines from the thrift shop for quarter a piece and they are quiltmaker, McCalls, fon's and porter, patchwork quilting and many others also.

CarrieAnne 05-31-2010 06:17 PM

I usually try to get mine used too, LOL, they dont go out of style much, and they sure are expensive to buy!

I totally agree. I used to love Quilter's Newsletter and got it for at least 2 decades but it's changed too much for me. Bummer, I used to get excited every time an issue arrived :(
I don't subscribe to any right now. There's so much online I honestly don't miss them.

virtualbernie 05-31-2010 07:09 PM

I'm subscribed to Quilter's World digital edition but now I don't have to get anything--I have this board to give me ideas and pattern sources! AND I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

JanetM 05-31-2010 10:34 PM

McCall's Quick Quilts is a must have. :D

Quaint Quilter 06-01-2010 04:02 AM

The Quilter Magazine

thequilterslink 06-01-2010 08:28 AM

I like The Quilter, Quiltmaker and American Patchwork and Quilting, but i dont' subscribe to any I have too many magazines now.

Rose Marie 06-01-2010 08:35 AM

I am eliminating most of my subscriptions. To much trouble to go thru to find patterns.
I will keep Fons and Porter, at least you can open the back page and see all the quilts in the issue.
McCalls will keep also.

pollyjvan9 06-01-2010 08:40 AM

Australian Patchwork and Quilting, hands down!

This explains why he isn't doing Quilter's Home any longer. I probably won't renew it. He has a special way with words! I always got a big laugh from his writing. Our prayers are with him and his donor.
Love McCalls, guess this would be it if I could only get one. I am letting my subscriptions expire on most of the others.

quiltingfan 06-02-2010 02:51 AM

OK I need to keep track of what everyone said so I can make a decision. My hubby subscribes for the magazines he wants so I decided that I should be able to subscribe to the magazine of my choice. i just may have to subscribe to more than one. LOL

merlene 06-02-2010 03:17 AM

I buy Quilting and Patchwork uk, the ones I really like are the Australians Stitchery Homespun ect they are expensive but worth it for all the ideas. If I see them I always buy one.Flair is quite good and Designs in Embroidery. There are so many I have collected quite a few different ones to keep me going but its the prices!

quiltinggirl 06-02-2010 04:21 AM

Quilters Magazine and Fons and Porter are my favorites!

Connie Merritt 06-02-2010 04:21 AM

This is the ONLY one I read now. I have purchased books (hard and soft cover) for patterns. Why buy when we now have all these quilting friends that are so helpful, informative, and supportive to each of us. Nope no more space needed for books, just space in my heart and mind for each of you. Thanks

dakotamaid 06-02-2010 04:30 AM

I've cut back on paper so right now I read Quilt World, I subscribe to the digital copy. I also "read" at the magazine stands. ;) If I like what I see I buy it!

Ripped on Scotch 06-02-2010 04:36 AM

I get McCalls Quilting, McCalls Quick Quilts and Quilters World. and my mother gets Fons & Porter and 2 other ones so we always have a rotation going of them

Gordi 06-02-2010 05:38 AM

I agree about Quilter's Home. I got the latest edition and was very disappointed. I did find the new Quick Quilts at a store and bought that because there is more than one pattern in it that I want to make. My new rule (since I'm now retired) is that a book or magazine has to have 2 or 3 patterns in it that I will make. There are just too expensive any more.
Gordi

Happy Needler 06-02-2010 08:07 AM

Quilters Home. I adore all the stories and information mixed with just the right amount of pattern. And they also let you go online to print the patterns and templates so you don't get any torn up books or missing pattern sheets.

gramquilter2 06-02-2010 09:12 AM

I just discovered "Quilter's World" and really like it. My favorite for a long time has been the Better Homes and Garden "Quilt Sampler".

crazicorn 06-02-2010 09:38 AM

Quilters Newsletter and McCalls Quilting get my vote (well, for this year anyhow).

Susan P 06-02-2010 03:01 PM

My favorite magazine is Asian Fabric. Beautiful fabrics and projects. My next is Quilting Arts. I also enjoy Fons & Porters, Quilter's World and McCall's Quilting.

I just subscribed to Quilter's World and enjoyed the patterns. Eager to see what the next issue has. I do get McCalls and just started that subscription - I'll hold my opinion till I see more, but it was a good deal. Our library carries F&P's LOQ and you can check out all but the current issue, so why buy?

DeniseB 06-02-2010 04:10 PM

Better Homes and Garden's American Patchwork & Quilting, have subscribed to it for 15 years. I have made more projects out of their issues than any other magazine.

For number of years I was buying almost every magazine available, then I started to go through them and decided it wasn't worth it. Plus with the internet and this board you have a wealth of inspiration.

Aussie Quilter 06-02-2010 05:10 PM

Australian Quilters Companion. It isn't full of the usual run of the mill patterns, has applique, interesting reading, AND includes a CD in a hard cover on a different technique with each issue!

suesews 06-02-2010 09:22 PM

I may be wrong, but I think those magazines morphed into The Quilter Magazine a few years back. This is one of my favorites, for great patterns, gorgeous pictures, and good articles. I used to subscribe to those oldies about 10 yrs ago, and I read somewhere that this is the new result...same editor, I think.

I love all of them but I would have to say Quiltmania it takes me on a quilting trip around the world.

SandyMac 06-03-2010 07:38 AM

I like quilt world. :-D

peabee 06-03-2010 05:40 PM

yes,, both quiltmania and australian patchwork are my favs, too
