Magic eraser

Try it on your iron. You'd be amazed at how it picks up every little bit of dirt!!

gramajo 07-28-2015 06:38 AM

Magic Erasers work well on so many things. I will usually try one first before going on to other rags/solutions/etc.

tessagin 07-28-2015 06:43 AM

I really like my magic eraser. They sell them in packages of 7 maybe more. They are able to get down into the grooves especially the textured fingerprint free fronts of refrigerators and such. I also use micro fiber rags for cleaning larger areas. I use the erasers to clean my small appliances and the grates on my gas stove.

franc36 07-28-2015 06:50 AM

I keep a Magic Eraser in my sewing room near my iron. In fact, I need to clean my iron before I start using it today. I agree, it is great for cleaning irons.

Diannia 07-28-2015 07:03 AM

Warm or cold iron????

dunster 07-28-2015 08:09 AM

I used mine on an iron and had dramatic results. I recently discovered that there's also a magic eraser mop that works great on tile floors.

Melanie Rudy 07-28-2015 11:01 AM

Thank you. My iron gets to be such a mess.

Jingle 07-28-2015 11:19 AM

I like them too. You do have to be careful not to take the finish off of things.

ManiacQuilter2 07-28-2015 01:58 PM

I was wondering if that works for cleaning the bits of lint in one's cutting mat?? Wet or dry??

cashs_mom 07-28-2015 02:01 PM

I never thought to try my Magic Eraser on my iron. I use it a lot. It's great on my Corian sinks.

I love using this to clean my iron. I have bought the iron off product and don't care for the smoke I always end up getting when I put it on a hot iron with a damp cloth. I have tried some of the other tips but I like Magic Eraser best.

I use these for cleaning my iron, too. Just so simple and fast! Also use the
ones made for bathroom cleaning that suds up and have a nice clean scent. Leaves the tub shining.

Haven't seen the mop for floors yet but will sure be looking for them. Thanks.

Tiggersmom 07-28-2015 02:43 PM

I had an email recently that had a HUGE list of uses. If I can find it I will post here.

Claire123 07-28-2015 10:55 PM

Thanks for the idea! I never would have thought of it!

citruscountyquilter 07-29-2015 04:19 AM

I use Mr Clean Magic Eraser - either that brand or other brands - to clean my iron. It works great and so economical. My iron has a shiny sole plate however. Has anyone tried it on the teflon like coated sole plates?

I am going to look for this. Would be a great help. Old back doesn't always want to get down on the floor!

Roberta 07-29-2015 07:09 AM

I love this hint and I'm going to go and try it right now. I cleaned the bottom of the iron with the paste and still there is something left on it that made ironing my DH shirt today difficult. I be the Magic Eraser can get that off, great idea.

Our local dollar type store sells them in multiples.

I wouldn't. Magic erasers are abrasive - that's why they take things off - You should have seen my teak dining room table after I tried to remove permanent marker from it. Needed to be re-oiled after that! Teflon is a thin, rather easily damaged coating - which is why we never use abrasive utensils with telfon coated pots. I don't think that's a good combination.

caspharm 07-29-2015 09:52 AM

I may have to try it.

annette1952 07-29-2015 01:29 PM

They are great for so many things. Thanks for sharing

Agree. I would not use it on Teflon either.

I sure hope the answer to this is yes!

tatteredgarden 07-30-2015 03:30 AM

Do you use it on a hot or cold iron? Is the Magic Eraser wet or dry?

Magic Eraser works because there is cleaner embedded in it. Use a nylon scrubbie or gum eraser to take out the lint on a cutting mat. Check out the instructions for keeping a cutting mat in good condition. They work!

cassiemae 07-30-2015 06:11 AM

The magic eraser works great on the bottom of your iron. I also use it on a lot of household cleaning. It is great.

mojo11 07-30-2015 06:29 AM

Wow! Never thought about using them on an iron. Thanks so much for these tips. I LOVE this board!!!

Chasing Hawk 07-30-2015 06:49 AM

I am gonna try this. I am always gumming up my small iron with elmer's glue or certain muslins.

Jeanette Frantz 07-30-2015 07:02 AM

Yes, they're great for the cutting mat, wet or dry. I generally just use a dry scotchbrite pad. Only wet it, if you plan on drying it when you're finished cleaning. Unless your cutting mat is soiled with water soluable (spelling?), I'd be content to use the dry pad.

sewmany 07-30-2015 08:10 AM

I just tried this. It does work!

Quilter 53 07-30-2015 08:48 AM

I read this on Tuesday, and what is the first thing I do when getting to the Fortress?... I try to press some material formally used as a boat cover. Yep, sticky, dirty mess!!! So got my magic eraser out and scrubbed, it worked, but still had to use the end of my "wooden iron" to gently rub off the heavy areas, then go back and reuse the eraser.
Gotta love this board. Great timing!

I tried it on my iron yesterday with high hopes but it didn't remove the very thin layer of "something" that's on the iron plate. I'm thinking it must be starch?

Billy'swife 07-30-2015 09:47 AM

Thanks for the great tip. I'm not using my erasers nearly enough!

1screech 07-30-2015 09:55 AM

Cleaning cutting boards.

There is a rubber tool that is inexpensive sold in some quilt stores that is fantastic. I just ordered 4 to give as Christmas gifts from Nancy's notions. I think it was around $20 for 4.

Great on Stainless Steel sinks too! AND the gunk on the inside of shower doors!

mjhaess 08-04-2015 04:48 AM

Thanks for the tip..

carol45 08-04-2015 11:02 AM

To clean my iron, which is stainless steel on the bottom, I use a fabric softener sheet when the dry iron is hot. Whatever is on the iron surface comes off immediately--it's miraculous!

calla 08-04-2015 04:31 PM

Yes, I too made a mess and remembered the magic eraser .....look at my post in General I posted pictures....I got lucky.....calla. Thanks board

And thanks dotcomd for starting this thread

teacherbailey 08-05-2015 08:51 AM

Just cleaned up desks and walls in my new classroom with these. Love them!

tessagin 08-05-2015 09:03 AM

It would burn and melt on a hot iron.
