i keep my magnetic pin holder on my machine when i am sewing. as far as i know, it has not affected my machine that i have used for 10 years now.

I have a brother ULT2001 and have learned the hard way to keep the magnetic pin bowls AWAY.
and FYI, you can go to the local NAPA car parts store and get these magnetic bowls for much less $ than at the quilt shops

I have a smaller one with my pins in and a larger one for my scissors, seam ripper, 6 in ruler, bobbins, and a couple of spare sewing machine needles. they are right where I can find them if I need them. I bought 2 sets of them (1 large and 2 small) for $5 on clearance at my local TSC store. also have an extending magnetic holder that I use if I drop any pins and can't find them. that was about $3. I gave one small holder to my youngest who is quilting too now, and gave the other set to dh so he wouldn't try to steal mine. He took my extending wand claiming it was his so I bought another one and put my name on it. Told him no way taking this one too.
