Just read a post regarding magnetic "bowls" from Harbor Freight. Does anyone know if these are safe to have close to electronic sewing machines? I've always been afraid to use anything magnetic near my machine.

You cannot use anything magnet near the computerized machines. I keep my magnetic pin dish on my ironing/cutting board to the right of my sewing cabinet.

Since a QB member indicates times have changed, I will make a call to Viking/Husquevarna as I had been instructed to keep magnets away from my machine back in 1996.

Just did a search & the sites I've found so far still say to avoid magnets with computerized machines

Well, lets see. I have a magnetic pin catcher and one of those magnetic wands that sit just to the right of me in front of the electronic control panel. 6 years and no problems. The biggest glitch in my sewing system is me, the operator. I'm sure if they were not recommended, then companies like Dritz and June Taylor would not sell them. Hope that eases your mind. :-) Maybe others have a differing opinion.

It is perfectly safe to use them near the computerized sewing machine, or near a computer for that matter. Things have changed since the old days, when a magnet had to be kept far away from electronics.

I keep on on the right side of every machine and large one on table. Never had problem with any of my machines. I bought mine at harbor freight.

Thank you-I just posted the same thing in different words!

Yep. Things have changed. I wouldn't rub the magnet against the computerized panel or anything, but other than that you are safe. An answer from 1996 doesn't apply anymore. I know this from a computer programmer.

I do all the time, I just don't attach them to it or put it right up against it. I have one attached to each end of my quilting frame to.

I love the magnetic bowls especially when I drop pins.
