great job... I recently made my own 10 degree ruler... I hate spending money on tools... would rather spend on fabric...

Great job in making the template and the block. I know what you mean with those 20 piece commercial made Dresden plate templates. What is up with that? DH made my template.

Great job all the way around! What did you cut the acrylic with? It looks pretty thick. You did a great job with the template and I love the block!

We used a radial arm saw to cut it but the instructions that came with it says you can use a sabre saw, jig saw, or circular saw. We didn't use any special blade just the one he had mounted on the saw.

That is a beautiful block. How long are the individual blades? I want to make one also and it calls for 20 blades. I am thinking less is better.

The lines on my ruler are at half inch intervals. I cut them 1/4" past the 7" mark but started with the 1" mark on the edge of the fabric so that there would be a hole in the center of the block to cover with the circle. The Dresden finished right at 14".

How did you know the size to cut it. I think that the blades are 14-1/4 long but how do you figure the top and bottom dimentions.

There is a tutorial here that shows you how to construct the perfect angle. Bisect that angle and draw yourself a line (that is the center line on my template). I then drew lines at 1/2 inch intervals perpendicular to that center line that intersected the outer edges of the angle. This created the cutting lines. I chose to make mine 7" long and added 1/4" seam allowances around the outer edges (dotted lines). You can extend the arms of the angle as long as you wish them to be but you need to measure the length of the blade from the center line. The first time I did it I tried to measure along the outside edges of the angle and it was not accurate.

Good idea! I wonder... could use a scroll saw to cut a curved template?

Also, an idea to put the marks on... you could use a clear (acetate?) sheet that goes through your printer. Just add the measurements on via computer, print it out and glue it on. It would come out very neat and tidy, permanent, with no smearing..

I would think a scroll saw would work just fine and I love your idea for printing on acetate. I don't have any on hand but may buy a few sheets just in case I want to make something else some time.

And for those who asked, I have no intention of selling any of them. It took me most of the day to make this one.
