Just about any pattern can become masculine by your choice of fabric.
The ones I've used for my guys have been simple geometric ones featuring rectangles and squares.
D9P is always a good one. D4P (either the diagonal or the regular version) would work well too. Been trying to find a picture of one I did from a quilt along on this board, but no luck so far

the new pattern from Cosy Quilt Shop shown in this video looks easy and masculine. You don't see the pattern until about 20 seconds into the video the first couple quilts are other patterns

I made a Disappearing 9 patch for my husband and one for my grandson. I am currently making another one for my Step-son and after that I am making another one for a friend (male) of ours. For some reason, these men love that particular pattern and it is EASY. Good luck in your search. looking forward to seeing whichever one you make.

How about a Chevron quilt - very easy and you can make the hst any size you want - there is also a pattern that uses strips instead of hst to make the chevron stripe. My other idea is a bear paw quilt or log cabin.

I made a quilt for my son, using greens, his favorite color. The pattern was called 'Romance Around the World'. It was all squares and half-square triangles. Very easy and quick. Because it was for a man, I didn't use any florals. He really liked it.

So many quilts look good in fabrics that are manly!!!

I could be very wrong, but I'm guessing he doesn't care for stars because he's never seen stars in masculine fabrics. Waht about digging thru your stash and find 2 or 3 fabrics for a sample star that would result in a masculine feel. I'm going to guess the fabric is his real issue.

Use manly fabric and any pattern would look male

Find a focus fabric (hunting, fishing, Nascar, heavy equipment, etc - whatever he's interested in) and make a Warm Wishes w/2 accent colors.
