Default male quilt

My 40 year old son wants a quilt. He likes all colors and I am a template aholic so looing for a nice design and then will start gathering fabric. Have just finished a tumbler and he really isn't into pinwheels and stars. I paperpieced 2 string quilts last year so not ready to do that again for awhile. I am so open to suggestions.

Thanks,
Evelyn in Sequim

How about Storm at Sea? Here's a link to a free pattern. I think it includes both templates and paper piecing directions.

That labyrinth pattern is cool, I might just have to order that one!

My suggestion is a more manly version of a pattern from The Pattern Basket called Ruffles. I saw a masculine version of it hanging at an LQS. I am linking a picture I took for myself, just so I could remember the pattern... wish I had taken a photo of the entire quilt, but this is enough for you to get the idea. The photo is too large to post here, so just follow the link below.

And a link to the LQS where I snapped the photo and later bought the pattern... they have an online store, and I am sure they would be happy to answer any questions if you want to go with this one.

Check out Maryquilts.com and Quiltville.com for great free patterns and suggestions. Lots of scrappy patterns, but they could be made in planned colorways also. Log cabin, Bento Box, Scrappy Mountains are some good ones.

My grown son asked me to make him the night & day quilt (E. Burns pattern) that he saw in one of my quilt books.
