LOve the music quilt as that definitely gives me ideas for another quilt. My partner loves music so may now have to start looking for more music fabric as already have some keyboard and vlack and white fabrics.

Thanks for posting this pic.

What's with this green, blue, brown? My husband just informed me yesterday that the bright yellow, dark green, and white quilt I am making is too pretty to give away. He wants it!

Yes, flying geese, log cabin. It's mostly avoiding using floral fabric. Plaids are always good too.

My son wants the Maroon and Black colors because he says its not girlie.

It's the colors that will make it break it when it comes to a man's quilt. To make it simple, I'd stay away from half-square triangles and keep to squares and rectangles.

I have been quilting since a yr ago last June. I recently made a "Jewel Box" quilt in earthtones for my DH and no one's going to get it away from him! LOL!! He loves it and uses it often (A/C)even though we live in sunny Florida. It's an Eleanor Burns quilt & you can find books & tutorials on her quiltinaday.com website.

Have you considered making a quilt with old men's ties....I have seen a great bow-tie pattern quilt made entirely from ties....just a suggestion.....

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Find some fabric printed already, then fussy cut.

Log cabins are nice, so are shadow boxes

Ohio star. It was the first quilt I ever made and I made it for my darling husband. He loves it. I made it out of flannelette as well.

I made a "Boy Scout" quilt for my brother out of flannels. The free pattern can be found here at one of my favorite fabric sites. http://www.robertkaufman.com/quiltin..._scouts_quilt/

Here's a link to the quilt I made:

I recently made a Double Irish Chain lap quilt for my brother. It was pretty easy, and he loved it! It is below. I used Eleanor Burns Quilt in a Day Irish Chain Book and chose the seminole border. There are also instructions for the regular border.

OOPS! Sorry for the multiple posts! That's never happened to me before.

I made an oversize lap quilt for DH last year. It is a log cabin in the sunshine and shadows layout. I used Civil War reproduction fabrics for the darks, and various shirting plaids and stripes for the lights. For the backing, I used 10" squares of shirting fabrics with a few CW scraps I had left. Most of the shirting fabrics came from recycled shirts. I quilted it myself with diagonal lines using a walking foot.

DH keeps it draped across the guest chair in his study and won't use it.

hi to you, how about a braid pattern. i think their easy

Winkee 08-04-2011 04:18 PM

One of the tube quilting patterns from Missouri Star Quilt Co. The owner of my LQS made one out of "manly" fabrics and it was terrific. Very fun to make, I made one for my mother in laws 90th birthday and it was fun and easy. Good luck!

here's a quilt that I use quit a bit when I need something fast.

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-126622-1.htm

it looks much harder then it is. The main blocks is the focus fabric so I pick what ever fabric print that is needed like for a baby, man or woman. Then simple cut the strips for the sashing in fabric that compliments the focus print. As far as the side triangles, they are very easy to figure out. If your focus blocks are 6" blocks and you use the 3" sashing, I cut 11" blocks which I cut on the diagonal. This give you a size a little bit bigger then needed but if you have problems with points as I do sometimes. This makes it so you don't have to worry about all that. It's like adding an extra outer border without having to cut it and you have a quilt with all the points in tack.

My husband always says: "No white spaces."

I did that one for my favorite uncle but he never got to see it --he passed before my daughter could pass it on to him.

hello there. My DH is from Bonham. I think one of my favorites for a man are the Bowtie, and the shaded 9 patch. You can make the center sq of the shaded 9 patch all solid to make it-use his favorite color, then plaids for the rest of the dark pieces. My hubby loves that pattern.

joycet 08-12-2011 11:08 AM

exactly what I would suggest....turning twenty with manly prints

I really don't think it's the pattern you need to fret over. I think any pattern would work (ok, maybe not flowers and such) as long as you pick out the right (masculine) fabrics. Good luck!

Split rail fence like Quilt in a Day has with a large rail in the center to display a thematic print.

I know it says for kids or kids at heart but it is great for adults too. Just pick the right fabric.
