My son stopped by and saw I was working on his sisters quilt and asked when I was going to get his Marine quilt done....I have found fabric in a few on line stores but not sure what pattern I should use for his quilt anyone know a good one? I looked on the search but didn't find anything.....I am a new quilter so something not so hard.LOL Thanks . sandra :)

Quilter's Cache has a pattern named Evan's Star in honor of PFC Evan W. O'Neill. I don't know what your quilting skill is, but it's not a real difficult pattern although it's paper pieced.

SunnyDays: Do you have a picture of the fabric you plan to use? I'm so visual that I have to see the fabric to decide which pattern to use . A picture of the fabric might help you get more suggestions on possible quilt patterns to use for your particular fabric.

I found these on bearpawquilting.com...My son really likes both of them. Not sure how they would work together. Really like the Evan Star and also found The Marine's Star but not sure these would look good in them. Both are on Quilterscache. Thanks so much for helping me!!!

I think these fabrics could work well together with a red and or perhaps the brownish-green color that is the tanks and the outer circle of the Marine Corps emblem on the second fabric.
I think it would look fabulous in the following block (although I do love the Marine star I don't think it will allow you to showcase the fabric as well)

Thanks great block...where would you put each fabric in the and he likes adding the red best. I was thinking the aav and tanks in middle ,red where it is tan and the marines emblem on outside corners....not sure. What would you do?

I think that would be a perfect layout for this block and fabrics. I would love to see one after you do it and then see the whole quilt :-)

What about using Hole in the Barn Door? Then u would have a bigger square in the middle to get the full pic of the fabric. For the outside part of the block use a plain color instead of the center block fabric

I made a quilt for my husband using his old cammies as two of the colors -- it's a Trip Around the World pattern. VERY EASY!!! It's my first quilt, and if I can do it, anyone can :) I've always really liked the bargello quilts, but they are still a bit complicated for me. This one is a great start to it. I used the 5 color variations (1 desert cam, 1 woodland cam, and 3 other complimentary colors). It made a twin quilt size.

Your DH's quilt is wonderful. Love the colors and you sure did do a good job. Thanks for sharing.

Sunny Days 04-20-2010 03:48 AM

wow never thought to use his uniforms. Thanks for sharing. I will show him this one.

I love that Marine's Star pattern.

The other pattern is great.

Love the camo quilt. What a brilliant idea.

If you have too busy a pattern, it will take away from the fabrics. Choose one as your Theme and use the other as your filler with some type of solid. Or use one of them as the backing and do a simple pattern like the Trip Around the World. He's a Marine and a guy-most anything will be fine as long as warm and comfortable. Not something busy. Will he take it with him when he deploys somewhere or will it stay home? In this case, size matters for packing.

marinewife 04-20-2010 04:46 AM

I love the Marine's Star, too... Just started it yesterday! I've never paper pieced before, but it's much easier than I thought it would be.

OP - If he is going to take it with him when he deploys I suggest sending it to him once he gets where he is going. Once DH got done packing up all his required gear before his last deployment, I couldn't even find enough room to stick a LETTER in his ILBE pack :)

That is a really nice pattern

Casperscott 12-03-2010 10:42 PM

that is beautiful. I just don't paper piece
