I'm thinking about trying a poly batting on the whole quilt and adding a layer of Warm and Natural on 1/2 for extra warmth without adding too much extra bulk. I'll try on a sample throw first to see if it actually works.

When I was first married, eons ago, I was used to having more blankets on my bed, compared to my new husband and his two. I couldn't sleep with so few, and he couldn't sleep with my four. My solution was to stitch, with big stitches, down the middle (by hand with big stitches) through three blankets. Then I treated them as if they were a big book, and folded more of the 'pages' towards my side.

Could you make two thin quilts, button them together down the centre (right sides facing), so that one could fold back onto the other side?

Good idea ... I'd been thinking much the same, and was thinking of an extra wide quilt that the extra width would fold towards the centre and be buttoned, or perhaps velcro'd to hold it in place. Yours could be very stylishly done ... and removable if the extra layer was not not wanted ....

I think the challenge would be to keep the 1/2 on the right person! It might become a tug of war!!

How do you know which side is which when you are making the bed? (oh, there I go being practical again....)

Wouldn't it be kind of obvious with the different batting? and weight? and bulk?

This is how my DH solved it. He bought an electric twin sized blanket for me. It is under the quilt over the sheets on my side only. I must admit it has helped. In the summer I just add a long twin on top of my side. In the morning I fold the twin up and lay it over a chair that is in the room for decoration.
